CFB Saturday - Week 8 - Non Bruin Games Open Thread

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

So that was pretty terrible. I just got back from the Farm a little while ago. The whole day was great - tailgating with lot of friends and then had to watch an ugly, atrocious football game where ghosts of Donahue, Dorrell, Neuheisel's vanilla and predictable offense showed up on our sidelines. MEH.

Let's keep the UCLA post-game focused on UCLA games. Let's use this thread for other games going on today. Here are the key night games:

Night shift

Best option: No. 5 Florida State at No. 3 Clemson

Odds: FSU -3
Weather: 60s, overcast, 40 percent chance of rain

Oh, hell yes. Make no mistake: whoever wins this game is firmly in the national championship picture and will have arguably done more to deserve No. 1 consideration than either Alabama or Oregon. Controversial, yes, but if FSU wins it has the biggest road win of the season, and if Clemson takes it it'll have two wins over teams in the top five at the time.

Jameis Winston and Tajh Boyd are set to put on a passing clinic, and look for whoever wins the duel to take his spot atop the Heisman Trophy race, if only for a week or two (these things are mighty ephemeral in October).

Plan B: No. 6 LSU at Ole Miss

Keep it in mind: USC at Notre Dame, No. 20 Washington at Arizona State, Nevada at Boise State

USC and Notre Dame may be out of the Top 25, but they're both compelling in their own ways. We get to see a Coach O-led Trojan team go up against a legit defense (sorry Arizona, but c'mon), and Notre Dame will see if it can maintain the momentum of its 37-34 win over Arizona State in Dallas. Washington-ASU is the rare 6:00 ET game, so if you have the Pac-12 Network, you get a game that has its kickoff and (presumably) endgame all to itself. Also, either team is wholly capable of dropping 45 on its opponent, so giddyup!

As for Nevada and Boise State, that one might just be a lot of fun.

In case of emergency: Washington State at No. 2 Oregon, Arkansas at No. 1 Alabama

Not often you see the top two teams in the nation playing conference foes at night and both being overshadowed, but the Cougars and Razorbacks are little more than sacrificial lambs here. Pay attention if either of these games are within 20 at the half; they shouldn't be.

And here is the list of full schedule.
