Steve Alford has the interest of fans. Over a 1000 people showed up for an open practice. The LA Times has a story and video here. The story does not say much directly but let me read a between the lines.
- Zach Lavine is a highlight film in the making. He gives UCLA an athleticism it has lacked in the past couple years. There is a reason fans and press are drawn to him. He is a freshman though and it will be interesting to watch what Alford does to mold this diamond in the rough.
- Jordan Adams is a little over weight. Not his fault, it is tough not being able to run all summer.
- Isaac Hamilton is both not going to be eligible this season and not really in the plans for this season. (Again, it nice to have a kid like him for practice.)
- As the report says, UCLA will be turning to Kyle Anderson in "important situations", this will be his team.
Unrelated USA Today does an unfortunate article comparing UCLA and USC basketball. This is not acceptable and if these comparisons exist at the end of the season, Alford has failed. (Alford opened the door a bit when he lost Jordan McLaughlin in USA Today's defense.)
