So there I was, a victory over Arizona in the desert, a mere 10 minute drive from the Rose Bowl, a huge game against Washington coming up. As a marketing professional, I am the type of person who should be a slam dunk when it come to ticket sales. My philosophy would be "These are the fans that will come to the website and order tickets no questions asked."
Therein lies the problem. Look at the attached picture. This is directly from the official UCLA football schedule on the website. Can somebody show me where I can purchase tickets? Oh they give me a great amount of information on where I can LISTEN to or watch the game on TV. But what if I want to go to the Rose Bowl and watch it? This is a hyped up game in which we want the RB blacked out, and we can't tell fans where to buy tickets on our own site?
Even USC tells me how I can purchase tickets to watch the Bruins at their stadium. Albeit they have the Chargers mentality of "No one wants to buy tickets to watch OUR team, so we need to make them buy a multi-game package to ensure that they don't Blue-Out our crappy stadium. The point is, their athletic department gets it. If we want to fill up our stadium, the most basic, non "Tech Savvy" fan needs to be able to purchase tickets in the most convenient way.
Do you think that the casual fan wants to have to go through Ticketmaster or StubHub in order to buy their tickets? I guarantee you they go to UCLA's site, see that there is no information on purchasing tickets, and say to themselves, "Huh, they must be sold out. Oh well." This is a MASSIVE failure on an already growing list of failures by our athletic department. Absolutely shameful.
