Per UCLA Athletics page, Geoff Strand is going to retire after ASU. As much as I applaud and appreciate his enthusiasm, I think it's about time. I had an interesting conversation with a few people in 2H these past few games about his "Not yet" routine. They were, to my surprise, all ABOUT IT. I mentioned that I thought it was a bit corny and we needed to update our fan experience. They shrugged and later told me to sit down.
In the past 5 years, I've been to games at CU, USC, Nebraska, Michigan, Texas, Alabama, LSU, and Georgia. I'm always saddened because our stadium enviornment was a bit tame in contrast. I thought it was because we were doing so poorly during the Dorrelian years (I was a student from 2003-2006). But now we're doing well - so the product should be infinitely easier to market and generate enthusiasm for.
I'm tired of the haphazard slow 8-claps. I'm tired of being told to sit down when I'm yelling on 3rd downs. While none of this is Geof's fault, hopefully (doubtfully) the Morgan Center will try to make UCLA home games a bit more of engaging and daunting for our opponents.
