Message for Mora: Beat $C & No Excuses Next Year

Bumped. BEAT $C & GO BRUINS. - BN Eds.

For context I hated the Jim Mora hire I called for Hugh Freeze, Gus Malzahn, and my Mark Hudspeth (how is he still at Louisiana?) to get interviews. I am a Seahawks diehard who has had to find a way to black out the Carroll Southern Cal years. I am trying to black out the Mora year in Seattle he was awful, players looked lost, threw guys under the bus, total train wreck. He deserved to be fired after one year and the Seahawks emerged better from it.

So I will admit this has gone better here than I thought it would having Mora at UCLA. Some positives for me have been the obvious we have moved up from a 6 to 8-9 win program that is progress. I think he has improved the character of the team we are tougher and not jumping over walls. The team building has been a success these guys are pulling the rope together and care about one another. Recruiting and building his coaching staff has been a positive for the most part as well. I think many things he has done outside of game day are top notch,

That said I believe next year is the pivotal year for him. I believe rebuilding or fixing a program is not a long term thing, three years is enough. How many coaches become BCS regulars needing more than a few seasons. I saw a graphic on this once the answer was coaches don't need much time if they are going to get it done. For me next year is no excuses, get it done or find someone who can.

Here is what is going on in my mind for this season...

Hundley is not there yet and should come back. He is sooooo talented but will get throttled in the NFL if he doesn't improve. I am spoiled watching Russell Wilson but if you watched the Hawks play most of the year his OLine makes UCLA look like Alabama up front. The difference is two things Wilson is more accurate in the pocket and especially on the run, Wilson can extend plays and keeps his eyes downfield all the time. More importantly is the internal clock for when to get rid of the football. The OLine is green and not perfect but Hundley is guilty of bailing to soon, and just holding the ball too long. He has to learn to trust his skill players to make plays, and keep his eyes downfield and trust his OL. Hundley is easily the best QB we have had since Cade but we need the growth if we are going to get to where we want to be.

The current Mazzone is not good enough to put us into position to beat good teams. Run up the middle, QB Draw, Swing pass, and chuck it deep/Hundley scramble is the four plays we run. It's predictable especially our passing playbook and Hundley needs more. They were blitzing did we have curls, slants, and drag routes behind the blitz to allow our talented skill players to make plays? Personally I think we are stuck where we are at unless Hundley overcomes Mazzone or we get new blood at OC. This is a huge decision for Mora and his legacy.

And whatever is going on with the slow start of the games has to be cured. Consistency is the key no more roller coaster games.

Beat SC and let's hope we get to the next level next year.
