Big Day for UCLA Soccer on Sunday- Both Teams Advance

The UCLA women, ranked #2 in the nation, but not given a #1 seed, advanced to quarterfinals. They did so by winning 2-0 over the team that knocked them out last year, Stanford. Kodi Lavrosky scored in the 13th minute and Taylor Smith scored in the 85th minute. As their reward, the Bruins now travel to Chapel Hill for a rematch with North Carolina this Saturday- game time is 5pm local, 2 pm pacific. UCLA's only loss of the season (NCAA- only loss of the season, and they don't host a quarterfinal- WTF) was at North Carolina, 1-0, in early September.

The UCLA men, meanwhile, crunched Elon 4-0. Victor Chavez scored the 1st and last goals, in the 12th and 54th minutes. Other 1st half goals came from Joe Sofia and Aaron Simmons. Leo Stoltz had an assist on each of the last 3 goals. UCLA's next opponent is U Conn. U Conn was ranked 21st in the most recent poll, so this seems like a pretty decent matchup for the round of 16. Game time at Drake Stadium will be 5pm on Sunday.
