UCLA Plays Up to Potential - Destroys Southern Cal

Jordan had a big game and Parker had his best half as a Bruin - USA TODAY Sports

USC tries to play dirty after a beautiful half by UCLA in a 75-59.

Howland gets some credit for we saw a pretty first half of offensive basketball with Travis Wear hurt and Shabazz Muhammad looking like a Cyclops. Larry Drew II was key with 8 points (include 2 big early 3s) and 5 assists. Howland showed he knew something when he picked Larry Drew II to be our point guard. Howland was right and the offense was at times beautiful for a 47-26 lead.

Of course Howland also deserves some blame. Tony Parker showed why he should be getting a lot more minutes. Against USC's many very BIG bigs, Parker dominated. Tony had 8 points (on 4-6 shooting), a block, a steal and played some good defense. In other words, as Tydides and Marques Johnson said "Where has this been all year? On the bench." Blame Howland.

SUC slowly crept back in the game but then their true nature revealed itself. The second half was uneventful until 12:18. Then the USC thugs successfully baited Norman Powell into double technical. Next, SUC showed what a classless university they are as they tried to injure Shabazz on a breakaway dunk and were called for a flagrant foul.

SUC Coach Cantu did not even bench either player. Classless jerk. (Howland took out Powell and kept him on the pine for a while after his T.) I really hope he does not come back because he showed he is a thug coach.

Meanwhile Howland took the air of the ball and let SUC back in the game as ironically Larry Drew II came apart. He also forgot how well Parker played in the first half. But UCLA hung on for the 75-59 win

Also, on Bruins Nation we have been critical of David Wear. He made a few mistakes and Wear shots (long 2s) but overall played a smart game, passed first and had 11 rebounds. He deserves a lot of credit for this game.
