The uniforms folly is just more evidence — as if more were needed — of why Dan Guerrero has to go. I think what we all have to remember is that Gene Block is unlikely to make a change unless it's inconvenient to keep DG in charge.
With that in mind, there are at least two things I think our community can do:
First, RECOMMEND A LIST OF SPECIFIC INDIVIDUALS — young, rising athletic directors at other schools — who would welcome an opportunity to lead the athletic program at UCLA. I don't know enough to put such a list together (and I think such a list might include women as well as men), but I'm sure there are several leaders of Bruins Nation who are more than qualified to do it.
Second — and I'm a bit hesitant to recommend this because I don't live near campus so I'm not putting my time or energy on the line — but I think A FEW PICKET SIGNS around Murphy Hall or the athletic department (isn't it located in, or near, Pauley Pavilion?) could get the attention of the media and maybe a photo or two.
The goal of carrying picket signs — and the attendant publicity — would be to make it inconvenient (at a minimum) for Gene Block to retain Dan Guerrero. I think all the signs (no pun intended) indicate the chancellor won't act without feeling pressure. Unfortunately, there's an established group of administrators at UCLA, in the athletic department and beyond, who have no intention of making changes because they're comfortable with the current situation.
But we're not comfortable or satisfied. And with enough work, we may be able to change it.
