Potential Redshirt Year for DE Owamagbe Odighizuwa

Stephen Dunn

We are hearing some unfortunate news from our sources who have been out to spring practice and noticed a certain, imposing defensive player that we have high hopes for, sitting out from practices and the spring game.

Back in late March, the OC Register reported that Owamagbe Odighizuwa would be sitting out the spring. Owa, as he is better known as, underwent off-season surgery to repair a torn hip flexor and subsequently rehabbed his hip this spring. Now we are hearing that Owa has suffered a setback and may have either aggravated the hip injury or injured his other hip, and may require additional surgery. He will be a true senior if he does not take a redshirt this year.

This is another setback for our defensive depth, as BillytheSid noted that Marcus Rios may sit out the entire 2013 season with a rare fungal infection in his sinus.

Fortunately, Coach Jim Mora brought in an early enrollee this spring at the DE position, in true freshman Kylie Fitts.

Let's show our support for Marcus Rios and Owa through encouraging letters. HT to MexiBruin for taking the initiative. Here's to a quick recovery for Marcus, Owa, Damien Thigpen, Eldridge Massington, Steven Manfro and others who are working through nagging and serious injuries.
