Former Colorado QB coach Rip Scherer is joining the UCLA staff.
However, he won't be joining as a QB coach. Taylor Mazzone is in that role.
Instead, he will be joining as the Associate AD for football.
He replaces Bob Field who is retiring at the end of the month. And the choirs of angels can be heard singing!
Field has been at UCLA for over 20 years and is the man primarily responsible for bringing us the Dorrell and Neuheisel eras. He is the poster child for what is wrong with the UCLA Athletic Department. He is the epitome of the Morgan Center's ol' boys club.
There is no love for Bob Field. May you live out your retirement as far away from the Morgan Center as possible. You have been responsible for a lifetime of mediocre football.
Before he became an associate AD, he coached football under Terry Donahue. Yet another reason to dislike Bob. He was partially responsible for that era's mediocre performance.
I will never forget or forgive Terry Donahue for his milquetoast quotes at the start of football season. There was never any talk of competing for a NC. It was always "We hope to play well enough to play in the Rose Bowl."
Mediocre goals equals mediocre results and Bob Field has been responsible for producing plenty of mediocre results.
Welcome, Rip Scherer! Please do not emulate either Bob Field or your new boss Chianti Dan Guerrero.
