Well, the First Sign of a Positive of Alford over Howland Recruiting

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The problem with Ben Howland was he turned off players who wanted to come to UCLA. Alford by just not being Ben is going to have a good shot at a few recruits. Case in point, Trevor Stanback:

Stanback, the brother of four-star 2007 SF Chace Stanback, said watching his brother sit the bench undeservedly for Howland jaded him to UCLA, and the Bruins weren't going to be on his list as long as Howland was there.

"My brother didn't get a lot of playing time and he played pretty well as soon as he got in," Trevor Stanback said. "I thought that if it happened to him, it's possible it could happen to me."

With Alford now running the UCLA coaching office, Trevor Stanback's view of UCLA has turned into a glowing one. And that's great news for the Bruins, because Stanback has some elite upside. . .

"It's a great school; I'd love to go there," Trevor Stanback said of UCLA. "My brother went there, but he transferred because he didn't like the coach. Hopefully the situation is better over there and I might be able to go there."

Now it is up to Alford to start recruiting some of these guys. They WANT to come to UCLA.
