Let's breakdown (and laugh) - USC v Hawaii

It pains me to admit it but I did listen to the USC v Hawaii game on the radio. I was intrigued by the train wreck. The 3-0 score after one quarter (when last year it was 20-0). Then the safety by the "vaunted" Hawaii defense and the field goal.

Score 5-3, and for the next 10 minutes USC is losing in game that was supposed to be a blow out. At this moment I was freaking out - please don't fire Kiffin after this game - we need him!

The 3 and outs continue for the USC offense - which seems horrible. No offensive line so no running game. A QB that can't hit super star recievers. I'm loving it.

By the end of the first half USC is comfortably in the lead, but looking really bad. The offense is still sputtering. The three scores came from:

  • Defensive touchdown
  • 30 yard drive after an interception
  • Field goal after of a turnover on downs.

Safe to say that the 20-5 lead is more from Hawaii blowing it, than USC playing well. The third quarter is riot of laughs too. The offense has three 3-and-outs for a total of 3 yards. That "vaunted" Hawaii defense again.

Meanwhile the Hawaii offense gained 91 yards and was close to a TD when the QB threw another interception (his 4th of the game at that point - he basically blew the game).

Ok, maybe USC turns it around in the 4th quarter. Two 80-yard drives for a field goal and TD.

At this point its going to be a long season for the USC offense. They really stink right now. I mean horribly stink. Maybe they turn it around...

As for the defense. They could be good - letting up 208 passing yards and only 23 rushing yards. More importantly getting 4 interceptions. The defense won this game for USC.

Final score 30-13.

This could be a very fun season for anyone rooting against USC.

PS - should you think the USC defense is good, remember that last year they won 49-10. Last years team gave up less points. The offense scored way more. And that USC team went 7-6...
