Legends of Coaching- Basketball- Where is Alford's Role Model?

The Legends of Coaching award is part of the Wooden Award ceremony. The selection is based on character, success on the court, graduation rates, and coaching philosophy.

The award was first presented in 1999. There was a brief blurb in the SF Chronicle about the Stanford women's coach being selected for the 2014 award. This got me wondering about prior recipients.

Here is the complete list-

2014- Tara VanDerveer

2013- Bill Self

2012- Geno Auriemma

2011- Tom Izzo

2010- Billy Donovan

2009- Rick Barnes

2008- Pat Summitt

2007- Gene Keady

2006- Jim Boeheim

2005- Jim Calhoun

2004- Mike Montgomery

2003- Roy Williams

2002- Denny Crum

2001- Lute Olson

2000- Coach K

1999- Dean Smith

Where is Bobby Knight? His teams were certainly successful on the court, and they had good graduation rates. So, clearly what is missing is character.

And what is missing so far with Alford? Character

The apple doesn't fall far from the coaching tree.
