Spaulding Roundup: ESPN Says Barr is not an All American, Evans on NFL, Su'a Filo on 10th Win

News and notes from UCLA's football practice as the Bruins continue to prepare for the Sun Bowl.

Bruins continue to practice for the Sun Bowl. Yesterday after practice two of the team leaders - Shaq Evans and XSF - met with the reporters.

First, let's start with Shaq Evans who talked about playing in the Senior Bowl (in Mobile, Alabama on January 25):

As noted by Jack Wang (who provided the video above):

The 6-foot-2 wideout has heard projections from the third round down to the sixth. He caught eight touchdowns, but his 617 yards ranked just 19th in the Pac-12. Evans caught 60 passes for 877 yards as a junior.

Linebacker Anthony Barr also received a Senior Bowl invitation, but is already regarded by most as a potential top-five pick. Last year, defensive end Datone Jones began boosting his stock with a strong Senior Bowl performance, and eventually became the first Bruin taken in the first round since 2006.

Good luck to Shaq!

Xavier Su'a Filo met the reporters after practice and not surprisingly the big discussion topic on his thought process re. going to the NFL early:

Listening to him I feel at ease. He seems like such a smart and fantastic kid who has all his priorities right. Whatever decision he makes I think it is going to be a smart and strategic one that is going to be in the best interest of his professional development both on and off the field. We are all crossing our fingers that he is going to be Ogden 2.0.

XSF ended the interview talking about the bowl game and how important it is for UCLA to get that 10th win this year. He talked about the bad taste in our mouth after the San Diego experience last year and seems determined not to repeat it again this year.

Lastly, yes the headline is accurate. ICYMI ESPN released it's "All American" list yesterday. Anthony Barr is not on it. LOL. Yeah, okay then.
