There's an interesting, if short, story in the L.A. Times about a new book by Seth Davis. (Hasn't he come in for criticism on BN?) At any rate, the story says Coach "butted heads" with the Olympics Committee when Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and later Bill Walton decided not to try out for the U.S. teams, and Coach "refused to intervene." Reportedly, Coach was concerned that the Olympics had become too much of a contest between the U.S. and the then-Soviet Union. I was particularly interested because for many years I have NOT been a fan of the Olympics (summer or winter games). I didn't see this elsewhere on BN, but my apologies if I missed it.
