Another Preseason College Baseball Poll- UCLA #12

USA TODAY Sports

Bumped. GO BRUINS. - BN Eds.

There are several publications which have college baseball polls. Last month, Collegiate Baseball released its preseason poll. In that poll, UCLA was #15. In that poll other west coast and Pac-12 teams included the following- Cal State Fullerton #1, Oregon State #4, Oregon #6, Arizona State #22, Arizona #24, Stanford #26, Cal Poly #27, San Diego #33, and UCSB #39.

Just in case there is any doubt that there is some guesswork involved here, Virginia was ranked #11 in the Collegiate Baseball poll. That is relevant because...

Today Baseball America released its preseason poll. And Virginia is ranked #1. They both can't be right, obviously. And in the Baseball America poll, UCLA is #12. Other west coast and Pac-12 teams in the Baseball America poll (and their rank in parentheses in the Collegiate Baseball poll)-

Oregon State #2 (4), Cal State Fullerton #4 (1), Oregon #11 (6). So in general, there is a lot less love for West Coast Baseball in the Baseball America offices than there is in the Collegiate Baseball offices.

Looking again at UCLA's upcoming schedule, the Bruins face the following teams which are in the top 25 in either poll or went to the postseason last year-

a 3 game weekend series at home against Cal Poly (part of the Westwood regional last year, UCLA's 2nd game win 6-4) on Feb 21-23

a Tuesday game at home against UCSB (part of the Corvallis regional last year) on Feb 25, with a return game in Santa Barbara on Tuesday, Apr 29

a Saturday match up in Cary NC on Mar 1 (town where UCLA won women's soccer title last month) against NC State (went to Omaha last year, UCLA's 2nd game win 2-1, ranked #5 preseason by Baseball America and #10 by Collegiate Baseball)

a 3 game weekend series at home against Arizona St (part of the Fullerton regional last year, ranked #22 by Collegiate Baseball) on Mar 28-30

a Tuesday game at Cal State Fullerton (the team UCLA beat in the SuperRegionals last year, ranked #1 by Collegiate Baseball and #4 by Baseball America) on Apr 8, with a return game at home on Tuesday, May 6

a 3 game weekend series at Arizona (ranked #24 by Collegiate Baseball) on Apr 11-13

a 3 game weekend series at Oregon St (went to Omaha last year, ranked #2 by Baseball America and #4 by Collegiate Baseball) on May 9-11

a 3 game weekend series against Oregon (upset in the Eugene regional last year, ranked #6 by Collegiate Baseball and #11 by Baseball America), the last regular season home series on May 16-18

Baseball season starts in less than 3 weeks. I am psyched !! Go Bruins !!
