I suppose no one knows for sure what the crucial factors are that lead high school stars to pick one university over another (after allowing for the fact that some schools are obviously good or poor matches because of athletic opportunities and/or academics, as well as the desire to where friends go).
But I have to say after watching and listening to Jim Mora speak confidently and authoritatively on Jack Wang's website about the performance of UCLA athletes at Tuesday's pro day that to the extent some of these kids dream about playing in the NFL, UCLA is likely to get close consideration from many of them. I know I'm speculating, but I can't help thinking CJM just gave his staff's recruiting efforts a huge boost.
Mora was touting the electronic times of UCLA players — does anyone know whether pro scouts value them more or less than stopwatch times? — and he said several scouts told him X is the best guard prospect to come into the draft in years. Wow!
Mora made sure to emphasize the NFL experience he and his assistants have. Really impressive stuff. And finally a HT to Bradley Bruin for his fanshot to the report on pro day in the OC Register.
