UCLA was #22 coming into last week, and moved up 4 spots, thanks to the extra innings heroics of Ty Moore. Moore's 2 run single knocked in the winning run on Sunday, which resulted in a 2-1 series win at home over Washington State. Not the most impressive home conference series win of all time, but enough to move the Bruins up.
Other teams of note-
Cal Poly moved up from #7 to #5 after taking 2 of 3 at home over Cal.
Oregon State moved down from #4 to #6 after losing 2 of 3 at home to Arizona State (UCLA's opponent this weekend).
Cal State Fullerton remained at #9 after winning a midweek game over UNLV and taking 2 of 3 at home over Long Beach State (UCLA's opponent tomorrow night).
Oregon moved up from #12 to #11 after sweeping Utah at home.
UCSB moved up from #19 to #15 after sweeping Wagner in a 4 game home series.
That is 5 West Coast teams ahead of UCLA in the rankings at this point in the season.
Houston jumped from #23 to #17 after going 4-1 this week, including a sweep of College of Charleston at home. This is important for postseason, because the better Houston does, presumably the less downside from UCLA's loss to Houston earlier this month.
North Carolina State dropped to #25 from #10 after being swept at Maryland. This is also important for postseason, and is the flip side of the Houston loss. The worse North Carolina State does, the less impressive the UCLA win over NC State looks.
