-Bumped. GO BRUINS. - BN Eds.
After losing to UCSB, the Bruins righted the ship with a weekend sweep in North Carolina, including a signature win over fellow Omaha entrant NC State.
The Bruins jumped 6 spots in the current poll to #13 as a result. The Bruins were also shown some love by the fact that NC State remained at #6, despite the loss to UCLA.
Cal State Fullerton leapfrogged over Oregon State, moving up to #4 from #5, after sweeping Oregon in Eugene. Oregon dropped from #9 to #14 as a result of getting swept at home.
Oregon State won 3 out of 4 from Wright State in a weekend series, but flipped spots with Fullerton. It was a good week for Oregon State, as they also welcomed back their ace pitcher on Sunday, after his 11 game suspension to start the season after the Phillies lodged a complaint about illegal contact (which obviously would not have been an issue if he had signed with the Phillies instead of coming back for his senior year- low class move by the Phillies IMO).
Cal Poly moved up from #13 to #11, with a weekday win at San Jose State and a Sunday split with $C. That is some love for the Trogans, although they were not put into the top 25. Somewhat ominously, the same Cal Poly pitcher who threw a complete game 2 hit shutout against the Bruins was torched by $C yesterday, getting lit up for 6 runs in 2.1 innings en route to a 16-0 drubbing.
Fresno State moved into the top 25 at #24, after sweeping then #18 Texas A&M in Fresno. The Bulldogs are not on UCLA's regular season schedule, but they could be part of the postseason mix.
We will know a lot more about $C after the Bruins and Trogans meet on Sunday in a non-conference game.
Go Bruins !!
