Blue v. White: Rosters for #SpringShowcase

Coach Jim Mora announced the rosters for Noel Mazzone's blue team and defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich's white team on Wednesday:

If you can't do the Twitter - you can also check out the roster posted on BruinReportOnline.com. Here are some rapid-fire observations from Jack Wang:

- Starting right guard Alex Redmond is listed on the blue team, despite Mora ruling him out of the spring game earlier this week. Redmond has been limited most of spring as he recovers from an offseason hand surgery, but recently ditched his cast for a brace.

Reserve lineman John Lopez was iffy to go earlier this week as he battled a virus, but returned to practice on Wednesday.

- Receivers Thomas Duarte and Devin Fuller are both absent. Duarte sprained his ankle last week, and Fuller has battled a sore back.

- Early enrollee Zach Whitley is not listed as a linebacker on either team. Saturday is also prom night for Galena Park (Texas) North Shore High.

Whitley is not the first Bruin to worry about attending senior prom during spring ball. Brett Hundley was doing just that three years ago.

For full details on Saturday's spring show case check the official site.

Day #9 Quick Hitters: Asiantii's Up & Down Spring

Noel Mazzone met with the reporters after Day 9 of Spring Ball. Here is the video (thanks BSR):

It sounds like Asiantii Woulard has been struggling a bit this spring, which is not a surprise as he is still finishing up his first year at UCLA. People keep forgetting that he is just a freshman. Mazzone talked about how Woulard has had up and down moments and going through the growing pains as a young QB.

The offensive lines was a patchwork:

Graduate transfer Malcolm Bunche left Wednesday's morning practice early with an undisclosed injury, giving most of the first-team reps at right tackle to redshirt freshman Kenny Lacy. Starting right guard Alex Redmond has seen increasingly fewer contact reps with his left hand still wrapped in a cast; early enrollee NaJee Toran looks like the clear No. 2 behind him.

Guard John Lopez was also absent from practice, forcing even more juggling through the unit.

And LBs were moved around:

Linebacker Myles Jack missed Wednesday's morning practice recovering from the removal of his wisdom teeth. Linebackers Zach Whitley (bruise) and Isaako Savaiinaea (shoulder) both returned.

After spotting at outside linebacker for much of the past week, Whitley moved back inside for most of Wednesday and looked much more comfortable. The Bruins ran nickel defense almost exclusively through the light practice, and so didn't need to start someone outside opposite Kenny Orjioke.

Linebacker Jayon Brown left practice with an undisclosed injury.

Typical grind of spring.

WATCH: Myles Jack on Leadership, New DC

Myles Jack met the press after Monday night's practice. Jack Wang as the video:

Jack offered some quick thoughts comparing new defensive Coach Ulbrich to his predecessor Lou Spanos (who left for the NFL for another positional gig this past off-season). Jack called "Coach Brich" more "organized," detailed oriented and more "strict" compared to Spanos. Hmm.

Jack also talked about taking on more leadership role with the team as he said that he as more responsibility as a returning starter. According to him Ulbrich is putting on more responsibility on him not just to be in complete command and control over his roles/assignments but also be aware of his team-mates roles. He is also being look upon to lead the team until Senior star Eric Kendricks makes his return from off-season surgery (hopefully by Fall).

Ulbrich talks about replacing stars like Anthony Barr and how new blood like Zach Whitley (stud freshman LB who has enrolled early) are fitting in the Bruin defense. Ulbrich's comments about Pete Carroll are also very interesting in terms of how Carroll jump-started his career as a coach.

Enjoy.
