**********************************************************************************************

So I woke up this morning ready to hop on a plane and fly to D.C.. Like VA Bruin, I just can't wait. So I thought I could at least put up a post so people could start organizing for August 30th, when our Mighty Bruins kickoff the season in Charlottesville against the University of Virginia Cavaliers (I much prefer their horse to that other one across town).

First I would like to thank VA Bruin for getting this all started a few months ago. And for those of you still making plans, VA's "Way Too Early" post has some great information about the game and on places to stay in the comments section. By the way, I would argue this post is way too early as well, or is it ever too early to get ready for UCLA Football?

I hope people will use this post to: (1) share information about housing, events, parking, get togethers, etc. in Virginia; and (2) start organizing watch parties for those stuck somewhere else. Let's get started.

For Those Going to Virginia

There are several events already being organized by the UCLA Alumni of Washington DC Organization (henceforth referred to as DC Bruins). The link will take you to their facebook page which has lots of good information. They also seem to have an outstanding softball team and a lot of fun!

UPDATED INFORMATION x 2:

On Friday and Satruday night, the DC Bruins will be holding events at the Biltmore. From the Bruins at the Biltmore: UCLA Football @ UVA Headquarters facebook page:

Heading out to Charlottesville to watch UCLA take on UVA? Make The Biltmore your Bruins headquarter for the weekend. Come join us on Friday night and Saturday after the game at the Biltmore, home to Charlottesville’s only "Beach Bar" and the city’s largest outdoor patio area. This will be the place to meet up with your fellow Bruins after the game and to celebrate our victory!

In addition, the Manager's dad played in the UCLA band so we will be raising funds for the Paul Carver Tiffany, Jr. Memorial Marching Band Fund which supports the greatest needs for the Bruin Marching Band, including travel, scholarships, staffing, equipment, and instruments. If you donate $5.00 to the band, you get a wrist band that will allow you to enjoy beer and drink specials all night long. You will also be entered into a raffle for some great UCLA merchandise (TBA). All proceeds will be used in support of this fund. Wrist bands are good for the night they are purchased.

As you can see the events are free. But hopefully you will contribute to the scholarship. Go Band! As you can see, the site will serve as a head quarters for those attending the game. Kudos to DC Bruins for getting all this together!

On game day, DC Bruins, along with the UCLA Alumni Association, are co-sponsoring the Bruins Bash. The Bash begins at 9:00 a.m. eastern time. Dang that's early for us west coasters! There will be unlimited food and drink. The cost is $55 ahead of time, $70 at the door. You can sign up for the event here.

The DC Bruins will also be hosting some fun get togethers Friday and Saturday night at the Biltmore (owner's dad a true Bruin). They are still finalizing their plans, but we'll let you know when that information becomes available. You can also get the latest on their facebook page or by following them on twitter at @dcbruins. They will also be tracking the game at #BruinsTakeVA where tailgating discussions have already commenced.

If you are going to be in D.C. "way to early", DC Bruins are hosting their ongoing Third Thursday Happy Hour on August 21st, from 5 - 8 pm, at The Laughing Man. I told you they have fun. This has also been their regular watch party location and they will be having a viewing party there on game day.

Regarding accommodations. In VA's post there are some useful comments about housing. As for me, I found a great cottage in Charlottesville for $57 per night on airbnb. I know, can you believe it? For those still looking, feel free to provide helpful information in the comment section.

VA Bruin and others, please let us know anything else that might be happening that weekend and any other information that would be useful in the comments thread. Your knowledge is invaluable.

For Those Who Can't Go: Watch Parties

As your residential distributer of watch party news, I thought it would be good to get people thinking about organizing these early. This year, we will continue to keep you up to date with the latest watch party information (that we know of). Many alumni groups host watch parties and we will have information about these as the information becomes available. Please use the comment section to start informing us about any viewing parties or to hook up with others in your area to organize one.

In case you are just tuning in for football season, you can catch up on all the news, videos, and analyses of this year's UCLA football team at our pre-season hub.

Enjoy and hope to see you in Charlottesville!

Go Bruins!
