Difference Makers, Offense v1.0

Was just muling over some thoughts on the offense for this season.

Far from an expert- however my opinion is thus;

Major reasons the offense sputtered so badly last year, was inconsistent line play- specifically the snap from JB due to his having to check off on every lineman prior to snapping. This threw timing off as 17 had to try and require not only primary route, but check downs. Defenses knew this and brought increasingly more and more pressure- which made the snaps even more erratic as more checks had to be made by JB. A self fulfilling prophecy of sorts.

I believe, this will not be the case this year, for three reasons.

1. O line overall is much more cohesive, even factoring in XSF's departure - there is just "more". More experience, more confidence, more familiarity, and more sheer human mass available.

2. Big Joe - having graduated, was sorely missed as he was a HUGE release valve for BH. Not only could Joe go up and get it in the red zone- an area of struggle last year, but on important 2nd/3rd long .. BH has high confidence in him. There is no one "replacement' for that- however Duarte has shown he not only has very good hands- but good feet. He is excellent in "space" and uses his frame more as a power forward (TP, are you watching?) to block off smaller LB's,etc. Massington is showing the ability as well, and lets not forget last years TE/FB VandeRiggins….(jk)

3. Speed kills. Last burner UCLA had, that I remember -was Freddie Mitchell..Mr. Swagger de-lux. I think the squad finally has some burners in Mossi Johnson, Jordan Lasley and possibly even Aaron Sharp - If nothing more than sheer fear on the outside and to drag a CB or safety out, clearing the mid zone and helping with back / flanker screens. This speed will also give BH more "time" as the cheat shade to the inside throw on the corners- well they re going to have to respect the deep ball threat and play more straight up - possibly even back a few steps.

My O-difference makers then- just for fun- before the season gets going are

Duarte

Mossi

Massington

Any thoughts?
