Steve Alford loses another West top recruiting target- when will this end?

Happier times for UCLA basketball in Las Vegas- too bad we can't recruit there - Ethan Miller

The answer to the question above may be "When Dan Guerrero retires or is forced into retirement by a successor to Gene Block." In the meantime, we have the displeasure of seeing Chase Jeter taking his talents to Duke.

Here is the story from CBS , with some additional interesting background.

Note in particular the following-

Of the six five-star prospects off the board, five are heading to either Tucson or Durham.

It is one thing to lose point guards, through the inexcusable favoritism/ nepotism shown to Bryce. It is another to lose a big man to Duke. Jeter is from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas. You would think that having the Pac-12 tourney in Vegas last year would have helped our recruiting efforts. But that clearly doesn't factor in the Alford effect.

It is a good thing that TIARA is so good with the X's and O's, and figures out which players, like Zach Lavine, deserve the most playing time. Otherwise, this inability to close with top West recruits could really hurt us down the road. But with the magic play diagram during timeouts, we should be fine. All we need to do is use Jimmy Chitwood as a decoy, run the picket fence and we will be fine.

Meanwhile, thank goodness for the start of fall football camp in San Bernardino, and the start of men's water polo practice in the deep end at Pauley.

Go Bruins !!
