Best Recruiting Tool ever?

Even though our Bruins have not looked nearly as good on the actual playing field as they do on reality TV, I’ve gotta hope that our staff is making sure that every recruit sees every episode, the show gives real insight into what’s it’s like to be part of the Bruin Revolution. Mora’s passion and sarcasm (to "coach" Mazz_ne: "you think you guys might wanna score anytime soon?") is infectious. The field level camera work really lets you see how fast/violent/athletic the game is in real time, and the sideline audio is great.

This episode also highlights how classy both Neu Sr. and Mora have been throughout the change of regime…it has to be so bittersweet for Neu Sr. to see Mora succeed w/his best recruit ever, especially since Neu Sr. chose not to burn Hundley’s redshirt as Neu Sr.‘s last season was going down in flames. Mora’s words of encouragement & belief in Jerry on the sidelines and Jerry’s fortitude to stick around and EARN the back-up spot (as opposed to Balford) after his father was fired was richly rewarded.

I was in the Rose Bowl when a food poisoned Neu Sr. led the 6-4-1 Bruins (who totally backed into the Rose Bowl by having a bunch of Pac10 contenders beat each other on the last weekend) to a complete thrashing of the 10-1 Illini…nice to see the family tradition carried on.

A couple of nit-picks:

Every episode starts w/Mora proclaiming: "Everything matters…we are going to win with every little detail…" Yet we are on track again to lead the Pac12 in penalties, many of which negate TDs or huge gains.

Every "Mora narration sequence" in every episode thus far has Mora proudly rocking a "The North Face" (a competitor of adidas in the outdoor category) branded shirt…if I were the adidas executive who approved the millions of $$$ being paid to UCLA, I would be a little disappointed that no one in Morgan Center was there to make sure adidas’ investment was protected on Nat’l TV. The absolute only thing worse would be if Mora was carrying a clearly visible NIKE-branded bag in the first episode...uhhh, ooops, that happened too (check out the scene in Episode 1 again where Mora is in his dorm room at Cal State SB). Morgan Center Marketing Dept asleep at the switch, screwing over it's biggest sponsor weekly on Nat'l TV.

Having Nick Pasquale’s parents cry on camera felt a little exploitative, but the overall segment on Pasquale’s continuing impact on the program shows the real unity and family-like atmosphere on the Bruins.

Go Bruins.
