Clueless Bryce Alford Gets Excited for Pac-12 Bling While Westwood Yawns

Streeter Lecka

The apple doesn't far fall from the tree. Just like our clueless mediocre hoops coach, Bryce Alford just doesn't seem to "get it" when it comes to UCLA hoops. Today, our "point guard" decided to share a photograph of the gaudy conference championship ring he got for winning one of the weakest conferences in America (it's pretty pathetic that they hand out Super Bowl size rings for winning not the NCAA championship, but a conference tournament championship).

The problem wasn't posting the photograph, but rather the tone-deaf comments that display the Alfords' total ignorance of UCLA basketball and what our standard for excellence in Coach's program is:

The bling just came innn!! I could get used to this! Can't wait to see what this year brings. #BlingBling

I'm sure he could get used to winning a weak conference and flaming out in the Steve Sixteen every year in the NCAA tournament - after all, Lavin made an entire career out of getting to the Sweet Sixteen before losing to some garbage team playing on a "magical" level.

There couldn't be a more startling reminder of how far our program has fall when the team is led by a "point guard" who is "happy" with winning a Pac-12 conference championship ring. This is UCLA - only national championship banners get hung in Pauley Pavilion. This isn't some garbage program like New Mexico (the only other program to offer this guy a scholarship . . . since his dad was the coach at the time) where winning a conference title is a big deal.

Just compare this to what Jordan Farmar, a true Ben Ball Warrior, had to say when he was in Westwood:

At UCLA, no other banner but national championships go up.

Man, wouldn't it be nice to have a point guard who just gets it? Man, how far we have fallen when our "point guard" is busy posting pictures of a (weak and soft) conference championship ring all giddy like a four-year old on Christmas morning. What a joke.
