Laughable!

If you're a regular visitor here, you probably read the latest Bruins Nation rant about Coach Steve. FYI - Guess what? Bruins Nation thinks Coach Steve should be fired. My rebuttal needs only one word: That's crazy!

Before I begin my defense of Coach Steve, I want to commend myself for having the courage to confront the irrational fanbase. If anonymously berating people on the internets isn't a sign of bravery, I don't know what is.

I want to start my rebuttal by taking a closer look at Steve's outstanding accomplishments in his first two years at UCLA. Don't worry, I promise to keep this short. I have to get back to working on a contract extension when I finish writing this.

Here are the facts. In his first season, Coach Steve won 24 games. His Bruins beat conference opponents 15 times. He won the conference championship. The Bruins beat the Trojans TWICE. He took UCLA to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament.

FYI - You know what? That's a darn good year!

Coach Steve did nearly as well in his second season He won 24 more games. His Bruins beat conference opponents 12 times. He didn't win the conference championship but he gave it his best shot. The Bruins knocked off the Trojans TWICE. He took UCLA to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament for a second straight year. Amazing! Simply amazing!

Let me repeat that last accomplishment to make sure that you're paying attention. He took his team to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament for a SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON. Amazing! Simply amazing!

FYI - Do you know how hard it is for a coach to get to the Sweet Sixteen in the first two seasons at a new job?

Did Coach K do it in his first two seasons at Duke? Nope.

Did Tom Izzo do it in his first two seasons at Michigan State? No way.

Did Bo Ryan do it in his first two seasons at Wisconsin? Close, but no cigar.

Did Billy Donovan do it in his first two seasons at Florida? Not even close.

Did Bill Self do it in his first two seasons at Kansas? Sorry, no.

What Coach Steve achieved in his first two seasons at UCLA shows all the characteristics of a GREAT coach.

FYI - Do you know that Coach Steve wasn't even 50 years old when he started coaching at UCLA? That means that he has the potential to get a lot better. When you consider Coach Steve's age and his accomplishments in his first two seasons in Westwood, how can you possibly deny that Coach Steve has everything it takes to become a Bruin legend, and possibly one of the greatest coaches ever? You can't, it's impossible.

Coach Steve also has all the intangibles that I look for in a coach. He's the son of a coach. He has hair. Wonderful hair. He enjoys a great rapport with his players. FYI - What more do you want from a coach?

Only an idiot would fire Coach Steve. FYI - Do you know how hard it would be to find another coach with his accomplishments and potential? When you think about the world's population and the number of coaches that have been in back-to-back Sweet Sixteens, Coach Steve is one in a billion! Yes, he's that rare. The guy who hired Coach Steve deserves congratulations and a bonus! What a find!

It's not possible for a sane person to look at Coach Steve's accomplishments in his first two seasons at UCLA and conclude that he'll be anything less than the best coach at UCLA since John Wooden. A Pac-12 title and an Elite Eight in his first season, and a Sweet Sixteen in his second season. Wow! Coach Steve is definitely a keeper!

So let's not have anymore of this talk about firing Coach Steve. Based on his accomplishments in his first two seasons at UCLA, I can guarantee you that Coach Steve is bound for greatness!

If you're still not convinced, at least have the patience to give Coach Steve seven years to build his program. FYI - What's the worst that could happen?
