Saturday Open Thread ...

So lets get this started. Already entertaining games involving Hawkeyes and Cyclones, and Boston College is in another OT game at home against Ben Olson's old school.

Brady Quinn is in his first drive of the day. Auburn-LSU in a huge game. Florida-TN, Bug Eaters/Cheaters later on tonight.

If you are taking in all these big games and lurking here at the same time, this is your open thread.

I will try to come back here later on tonight. In the meantime use this thread to post all your game thoughts, observations, rants, whatever is on your mind this Separation Saturday.

GO BRUINS.

There goes the Heisman?!
the minute I publish this ... BQ throws the pick.

BC pulls it in 2 OT
they are winning like we were last year. Although their wins are coming against better teams.

Oregon looks really good
Then again, OU is waaaaay overrated.

But Oregon is going to give us problems. Dixon looks like Mike Vick running all through the OU defense, and Jonathan Stewart is a beast.

Whats the score of that game?
I am getting Miami Louisville here.

10-3 Oregon after the 1st
I agree with A, Oregon is looking good.  They've got themselves a nice offense.

Michigan is killing ND
ND offense is like UCLA's offense from the Rice game (the second half)

by Nestor on Sep 16, 2006 1:32 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Bob Stoops adjustments
have really slowed down the Oregon attack

by Ajax on Sep 16, 2006 4:07 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Michigan
Is on their game. The ND    defense is not looking good at all.

by Paragon SC on Sep 16, 2006 1:40 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

ND
I can't believe how pathetic they are looking. Unbelievable.

by Nestor on Sep 16, 2006 1:44 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Just saw the stats
Quinn is 3 of 11 for 14 yards.  And he threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown.

Can we stop talking about him as a Heisman candidate yet?

I'm switching between Oregon and this game, but just saw two more incomplete passes and ND go 3 and out.

We can beat these guys.

by antipimp on Sep 16, 2006 1:56 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I was thinking the same thing ..
If we come in focused we can take these guys.

I think we have a better chance of beating ND than we do of beating Oregon.

This is stunning.

by Nestor on Sep 16, 2006 1:58 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Possibly unfortunate
Part of my optimism about ND was that I thought that they'd be overconfident against us, and look past us.

Now I have to hope that today isn't a fluke, and that they're really this terrible, because otherwise they won't be overlooking anyone.

by antipimp on Sep 16, 2006 2:13 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

One thing ND has going for them ..
Carr is coaching Michigan, who just may go real conservative in the second half. If Michigan sits on this lead in the second half, they may get themselves in trouble.

by Nestor on Sep 16, 2006 2:15 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yikes
Can you just imagine what the reaction would be if Carr manages to give this one away.  Oh my.

by Menelaus on Sep 16, 2006 2:18 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah ...
I don't think this game is over yet.

To bad I will be missing the lot of the second half.  I gotta get off the comp. and go out for dinner with the Mrs. soon.

I will be back late on tonight for the Bugeaters/Cheaters game.

Keep up the thread boys and girls.

Go Bruins.

But I'm sure they weren't overlooking Michigan, and a lot of good that's done them....  ;)

The first non moderator comment
Can we all now agree that as always, ND was overrated?  Or is Michigan just that good (or both?).

LSU Auburn 3-0 at the half in a huge defensive "ugly" battle.

Or may be Michigan is that good?

ND doesn't even look like a top-15 team right now.

by Nestor on Sep 16, 2006 2:00 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

They look awful
If you were going to tell me one QB would be 3 for 13; and the other would be 6 for 10 w/ 2 TD's, I wouldn't have guessed Henne (though his INT was just terrible).

We can beat these guys.  Their secondary just isn't good at all.  The questions about their suspect D are in the process of being answered.

by Menelaus on Sep 16, 2006 2:06 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Uh
Holy Crap.

This is starting to look like 19-66.

Henne
Another just great looking TD pass.  I know that some Michigan fans aren't totally sold on this guy, but he is looking good today.

by Menelaus on Sep 16, 2006 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Michigan's WR's...
...really exposed ND's lack of speed on D.

Too bad we won't be able to exploit that wekaness.

ND
I just love that halftime score, 34-14.

I am disappointed with the Michigan defense in the last minute. A prevent defense usually prevents you from winning or getting the ball back.

I still like the 34-14 score.

A smart second half by Michigan and this will be one hell of A ROUT.

GO MICHIGAN

Hey we have to disagree on something.

I don't think much of a guy who took an AFC champion down to the toilet.  He may be a good OC, but not a good HC.

Great game going on in TN.

And ... I hear the Sooners got robbed?

by Nestor on Sep 16, 2006 6:44 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

That game was crazy
Ducks need an onside kick to get the ball back or its over. Video pretty much shows Oregon illegally touched the ball before 10 yards but the review booth rules in their favor anyway, they drive it down and score in about ten seconds. Then on a squib kickoff, OU runs it all the way back to field goal range, and they miss on a 44 yarder. Those were all the things that happened AFTER OU got screwed.

by scittles on Sep 16, 2006 6:51 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hmmm
Couple things:

Does anyone know if they can call a penalty on replay; cuz' that is what the touch by the Ducks would be.  I'm not sure the officials could have done what the annoucers suggested.

Also, they were Pac-10 officials.  At least it's not always a Pac-10 school getting screwed by SEC refs.

by Menelaus on Sep 16, 2006 8:16 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, Sooners got robbed
Because they lost to a Pac-10 team.  See, that's how it works.  If you lose to a "Queer West Coast Liberal" team, you must have been robbed.

It's hilarious....I love baseball far more than football, but I love UCLA above all.  So, on baseball message boards, I'm the calm, analytical type of fellow, though baseball is my sport.

Here, I'm a totally emotional being, living and dying with the Bruins, though football will always be second best.

The one constant?  I'm a joke making smart ass either way.

For the record, I'd take a UCLA football championship over a Dodger World Series.

ABC can try all they want to build SOUTHERN CAL up. SC is not the juggernaut they used to be. That horse ...
should be slaughtered and fed to the French.

by Nestor on Sep 16, 2006 8:03 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Florida
just scores to tie it up and now takes the lead.

Urban Meyer offense ... awesome.

by Nestor on Sep 16, 2006 8:05 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, but the horse doesn't have any control
Now, if he threw him off, more power to him.

UCLA
Might be in the top 25

by uclabruins05 on Sep 16, 2006 8:07 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I don't see it ...
Voters will put in michigan state over UCLA to make the ND/MSU matchup look attractive.

We can't whine really since we played like ass against Rice.

by Nestor on Sep 16, 2006 8:08 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

We Should Have to Play Our Way In
No way to evaluate us this week.

Utah wins big.

Rice loses big.

Which team are we?

Time will tell.

TRUE
But TCU beat TEXAS TECH we shoulb br right there with a win over U-DUB

by uclabruins05 on Sep 16, 2006 8:10 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Agreed
when we beat U Dub ... we should get in.

by Nestor on Sep 16, 2006 8:11 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep
Agreed.

And, not to look past Washington, but what's up with Stanford getting worked by Navy, and Arizona struggling against Stephen F. Austin.

There is zero reason we shouldn't start at least 5-0.

Switch to Tenn/Fla
It's a great game -- two teams playing well.

4 min left

Yeah
watching that right now.

Callahan coahed like a pu$$y
down by 14 with about 6 mins to go and he decides to punt. And I won't even go into the play calling.

If I am a Nebbie fan, I'd hide my face in shame to have this loser leading a proud program.

What a joke.

I just heard that
what a fucking dilo Ohio State douchebag.

ABC ought to be embarrassed of themselves for selling out like this.

Fuck you Kirk.

by bluestreet on Sep 16, 2006 8:21 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

That comment ...
should be plastered over every single Bruin locker and coaches should play it before every practice session.

What a fucking asswhipe.

Fuck you Herbstreet.

by Nestor on Sep 16, 2006 8:23 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Herbstreet a major flip...
flopping tool. During Thursdays game wvu vs. maryland Herbst goes on about how WVU is the team he thinks can run the table. Now he was asked who he thinks can run the table and he picks SC and Louisville. Hmmmm. What a jack a$$.

by bruinelder on Sep 16, 2006 10:08 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

thank goodness i have a dvr
I think I listened to what Herbstreet said about 8 times, just to take it in and make sure that's what he said.  The other color guy (not sure who that was) even replied "ohhhhh . . . !!" letting him know he thought that was an interesting comment.  Herbstreet after that guys remark said it AGAIN.  If it wasn't for my dvr, i wouldn't have been able to get upset as much as I did.  Let's hope the coaches and players take that comment to heart.  And what Carroll said about the defense, in regards to our new DC taking the job.

You Tube
Some one needs to clip that and put it up on YouTube.

UCLA has
A better Defense than the last time SUC played in the ROSE BOWL 29-24 in a Bruins loss.

What a fucking IDIOT!!!

GO BRUINS!!

Kirk Herbstreet is a tool
He'll eat those words.

Why is Herbie Wrong?
Sure, Herbie is a tool, but what past performance indicates that he's wrong?

Um, last time I checked, we got our asses handed to us 66-19.  Am I supposed to get mad because he said what everybody else is thinking?

Go Bruins...F@#$% SC... UCLA Fight Fight Fight!

by HomeBruin on Sep 16, 2006 8:41 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

He isn't wrong
but he exposes himself as an idiot because they've only won two games, and this one was not impressive enough to declare that they will run the table. He would actually have had a better argument for that after the Arkansas game.

by scittles on Sep 16, 2006 8:58 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Context
He said Southern Cal would go right through UCLA in the same breath that he said Washington State had a chance to beat them.  Is he claiming WSU is much better than we are, or is he just talking out of his rear?
