This team just doesn't get it. Please make it end. We need a coach that knows how to win and can teach that to his players.

In all seriousness
The offense was much better in the second half, but it still didn't score a td. I think if we had opened it up earlier, something would have worked.
But KD coached fearfully again, trying to minimize mistakes instead of maximize opportunities.

Notre Dame
Do you remember who Notre Dame beat this season?
If that isn't a good enough reason to get rid of Dorrell, then I don't know what is.
And if Guerrero needs this much evidence ('07 season) to show how bad the coaching is for the Bruins Football Team, he is either blind or a puppet.
I don't know which is worse, being blind or being someone's fetch it boy?
Yeah, I'm bitter now.

But just LOOK what we have to look forward to now!
Soon-to-be #2 Oregon comes to town in two weeks, and yes, it's another Classic Karl Dorrell "CHANCE TO PLAY THE SPOILER" role! Can I get a Hoo-rah!? Maybe we can storm the field and tear down the goal posts and cheer like it's New Year's Day like all those third-rate schools do when they produce a big upset.
Upsetting indeed. How could it come to this?????
by Fedup on Nov 10, 2007 4:47 PM PST 0 recs
quite frankly, I don't care anymore
Exactly one.
So, excuse me if I cannot muster any outrage or anger. We all went in expecting this team to have the ability to win the Pac-10 and IMO they certainly do. But it's another mediocre season of UCLA football, and I am just ready for it to all be over. There's no point to getting angry or frustrated or riled up over these games at this point.

ASU tried to hand KD a win on a platter
ASU looked like a very ordinary and beatable team.
by bluegold on Nov 10, 2007 5:17 PM PST 0 recs
A primer for KD
"I've probably learned more from these guys (players) than they have from me, and I think that's the way it should be as a manager. When things are going rough, you should get out front and take the hit. And, when they're going good, you should stay the hell out of the way. It's all about the players. These are the guys that are doing it."
Somehow, though, I expect to hear about failures to execute, inexperienced QBs, injuries, ...
Just trying to help.

Fire the ENTIRE STAFF TODAY!
Let Ed Kezirian come back to coach for the final two games... it would be better than what we have now. Injuries or no injuries... This season (the last five) was a COMPLETE waste of our time as Alums.
This sucks. Turn the page now and let's start the search.

by bb41 on Nov 10, 2007 6:30 PM PST 0 recs
I love the way we played with passion today
Beat heavily favored Stratford. 21-7.
Can you believe a 7 play goal line stand (held on 4th and 1 foot only to commit a penalty and give them 4 more downs).
How did they win? They were well coached on both sides of the ball. They played as a team, were consistent, didn't get penalized in key situations.
Then I came home and watched my tape of the Bruin game.
I'll take Texas HS football any time.

From Dohn...
Q: If the season was over today (with UCLA 5-3), do you think Karl Dorrell would be fired?
A: No. How do fire a guy who is in second place in one of the tougher conferences in the country?
Before this week
Q: If the season was over today (with UCLA 5-4) would Dorrell get fired?
A: I do not know, nor do I care. I don't deal in hypotheticals like that.
by SuperBruinMan on Nov 10, 2007 7:48 PM PST 0 recs
Dohn Doesn't Deal in Hypotheticals? BS
The "injury excuse" is based upon a hypothetical -- that the team would play better if the injured players were healthy enough to play. Empirically, we know that is not true. We sucked when the injured players played.
Dohn's calling for giving KD "more time" is based on a hypothetical -- that as KD has more time on the job he becomes a better coach. The empirical data proves that assumption false.
Dohn doesn't quite get it. He's dealing with an audience that has been educated by one of the nation's great universities. We know what a hypothetical is. And, we know the difference between assumptions and facts.
Don't bring that weak shit into our house.

This was a key loss
In addition, the MSM in the next 2 weeks won't be talking about "controlling own destiny" or "bowl eligibility", rather the focus should solely be on Dorrell's future (or lack of it).
The timing will also be appropriate for DDs ad in the Daily Bruin.
If any loss can be categorized as a good loss, this was it.

By that token
But seriously, let's make sure we are smart about this transition. It makes sense to get rid of people who are underperforming. It doesn't make sense to get rid of people for your ego. It should be noted that if he was the guy that presided over the bowl win after Toledo was fired, then that means he was part of Toledo's staff as well, or more accurately, he is a part of no one's staff. He works for Morgan Center. If you can live with terminating a guy who has satisfied his job requirements, then go ahead and call for his head, but I can't in good conscience do the same until I hear that our players are having trouble staying academically eligible, because that is his job.

I'm just not seeing the need
If he has "ties" to Donahue, then he also has "ties" to Pepper Rodgers, Toledo, and sadly, the Doofus, so I don't see that as a line of reasoning that leads to us getting rid of him. What's the point in getting rid of KD if we are going to be rash? If we are so lazy as to be unwilling to evaluate the performance of individuals, then that obviously doesn't bode well for the search for our next coach does it? That's the kind of attitude that got KD on our "short list" the last time around.

Proper CTSectomy procedures
Remember that a CTSectomy can sometimes cause the operating surgeon to try to remove too much diseased tissue too quickly. Not all tissue surrounding the tumor is infected with loser-itis. Some of that tissue is valuable to support the remaining healthy body. It is not always necessary, for example, to remove a towel."
That's what it said in my medical textbook, FWIW.
