St. Louis University Makes Rick Majerus Its Next Head Coach

The Lizard's Mate Gets a Real Job

Star-divide

There was a time when I thought Rick Majerus would be the perfect coach to replace the Lizard of Westwood and to bring our program back to prominence.

That was before he took the sc job, backed away from the sc job, and then teamed with that very same Lizard to denigrate Ben Ball in his commentaries.

Congratulations Mr. Majerus (borrowing 71's convention of reserving "coach" for people I respect). Now that you can't hide behind your microphone, here are some challenges for you:

Hire the Lizard. Yes, hire the Lizard. You seemed quite compatible in front of the camera. You really never challenged his BS. If you believe it, prove it. Put him in control of part of your future.

And, then, I'd like to see the 2 of you schedule some games against UCLA. Don't think much of what we do? Put your players where your mouth is (Oops! not a fit metaphor in this case, he might try to eat them.)

Actually, I hope the TV Majerus becomes Coach Majerus. He made solid contributions in that role and I hope this job helps him get back to where he was before the bright lights seemed to melt his credibility.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

He needs Jenny Craig
I am truly worried that his heart will explode on the sideline one day. He seems fatter than ever before, I bet he hasn't seen his wang in 25 years. Unfortunately, St. Louis is one of the fattest cities in America, the place is littered with fast food joints...I truly fear for his well-being.

My fear is...
...that if you put him on the Jenny Craig diet, he would try to eat Jenny.

Rick Majerus is a great basketball coach
and an incredibly self destructive person. He needs to focus on getting his life together. He can barely talk on ESPN without getting winded.

Majerus
Did he ever move out of the hotel he lived in for all those years at Utah where they featured 24 hour room service?

This questions must be answered first
How are they going to squeeze Majerus through that gateway arch?

You guys are cruel!
I don't think Majerus gets the respect he deserves.  I have never seen his gills, but I must admit that I ran into him in Maui back in 2001 while snorkeling in Hanauma Bay and his fins were barely noticeable.  In fact, the dorsal fin appeard to have evolved into two distinct stumpy white leg-like structures . . . other than the way he had washed up on the beach, you could hardly tell that he was a whale.

Not to be nerdy, but
whales don't have gills...seeing as they're mammals...they breathe air through their blowhole...

South Campus to the rescue!

yea...
and Hanauma bay is on Oahu, not Maui :-/

Oops . . I meant Honolua Bay
http://www.hawaiiweb.com/maui/beaches/HonoluaBay.htm

As for whales not having gills, that would explain why never saw them!

More nerdy info
Legs evolved from the pelvic fins, not dorsal fin, while arms are known to have evolved from the pectoral fins. ;-)

I guess my biology degree was worth something...

Majerus hasn't always been a model . . .
commentator, and he may or may not have been upset about not getting a longer look as coach of UCLA.

But that said, he is a heck of a coach.  What he did at Utah is remarkable (Ball St. too), and comparable to any great coaching accomplishment including Ben Howland's at UCLA.  I don't think his basketball coaching skills and credentials can be questioned.  He would have been a great coach at UCLA.  Maybe he is overweight, but if that was a reason to criticize then I missed something.

I'd rather have Howland, but I think 422-147 (Majerus' record as a coach) speaks for itself.  I for one wouldn't be calling him out as coach of St. Louis . . . that is way bad karma.

Oh, and Majerus doesn't have to worry about scheduling UCLA.  Scheduling a Majerus led St. Louis in the early season is a dangerous proposition.

I Was Serious When I Said I Had Hoped Majerus ...
would take over for Lavin. I think Majerus is a great coach.

I first learned of him when I was teaching in Wisconsin and he was a coach under Al McGuire. Majerus never had great talent yet his teams were always competitive and overachieved.

He takes over a team that went 20-13 with but one senior.

However, I'm also serious when I say that he tarnished his reputation by saying some really stupid and negative things about BenBall.

I'm glad he's coaching, again, for two reasons. He's a good coach. And, he's a shitty commentator.

I'm not questioning that he's a good coach
And I'm not questioning that he's fat either. Neither of those are judgments, just facts. He has to watch his health, for his own sake.

Maybe
there is a good hospital nearby that is better than the UCLA medical center...

by SuperBruinMan on May 2, 2007 6:02 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

actually there is
Washington University Medical Center.  WU is a great med school.

by tasser10 on May 7, 2007 2:47 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

though I wouldn't say
that it's better than the UCLA medical center

by tasser10 on May 7, 2007 2:48 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I had known about Washington
There were many on BRO who thought it was U-Dub's medical center that was highly ranked.
