SUC is going to suck

Pruitt to remain in NBA draftESPN.com news services
Updated: May 17, 2007, 10:49 PM ET
USC guard Gabe Pruitt, who declared for the NBA draft in April, will hire an agent and remain in the draft, ESPN's Jim Gray has learned.
Pruitt had not hired an agent when he declared last month, meaning he could have returned to school for his senior season if he'd chosen to withdraw by June 18.
The 6-foot-4 Pruitt averaged 12.5 points and 4.2 assists for the Trojans last season, leading the team with 47 steals. USC went 25-12 last season, losing in the NCAA regional semifinals to North Carolina. He is the 25th-leading scorer in school history with 1,102 points.
Looks like Timmeh! might be looking at tough times next year. Pruitt has hired an agent, so is in the draft. With Pruitt, Young, and Stewart gone, It looks like the Trojans will be limited to Mayo's chucking the ball towards the basket 50 times a game. No wonder Mayo decided to commit. The money he's getting paid, and the ability to shoot the ball all the time are golden to a "student" athlete like him.
Looks like SUC will never reach the "magical level" they got to under Henry Bibby again. Timmeh!'s sweet 16 meltdown will probably be the pinnacle of his career at SUC.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Poor decision
I agree--this is bad news for the SuCsters. I'm really broken up over this.
It was bad enough

SUC
This Has Already Been Debunked
Just another example of Trojan jealousy.
Since when has SUC worried about legitimacy?
Ridiculous

Program of the 20th century?
It's hard for SUC to claim national sports superiority when they can't even claim that in their own city. So sad.
Sad, sad, sad
On the other hand, I find it amusing that the school with the biggest ego in the world obviously has a serious self-confidence problem when they stoop to this level.
Figures
Yes, USC has 106 total national team titles if you count non-NCAA titles along with NCAA titles. Only 84 of those titles are counted by the NCAA by the way. I don't know how the number 95 got in there.
We know the Bruins have 100 official NCAA titles. But then how many "total" national titles does UCLA have? UCLA has 121 total national titles.
http://uclabruins.cstv.com/trads/ucla-championships.html
The bottom line is that UCLA has more national titles no matter which way you count them. In NCAA titles, it's 100 to 84 in favor of UCLA. In total national team titles, it's 121 to 106 in favor of UCLA. Some of these trojans are just plain ignorant about how many titles UCLA actually has. And some know that they are comparing apples to oranges in order to deceive others.
Why should you expect anything different.
84 + 11
I really don't care if $UC wants to count those towards championships. They still only have 95 to our 100 when we're 40 years their junior. Pretty amazing.
the 95
Not NAIA (my bad)
I guess that means
I don't think we should expand beyond
Most double-murders walking free and thumbing their nose at society.
Most quarterbacks taking ballroom dancing.
Most lawyers on staff to handle "unpleasantness" (i.e., beating up girlfriends, etc.)
and the ever-popular refusing to answer the phone when the NCAA investigators call.
This is just to name a few.
Or add on our other titles
Again
In other words

Seriously I think I wrote something back in winter predicting how the walls are going to cave into Timmeh's gap closers during this off season. It's going to be fun watching these clowns fighting for the fifth spot in conference this coming season.
<strike>Timmeh</strike> Southern Cal basketball program is so pathetic that even KD looks like a real program builder when it comes appearing as a "gap closer" in LA's major college sports. At least he beat his rival once in a game that actually meant something.
well, not to be controversial
I know you can build a winner and have high character, which is an expectation not met yet, and I hope KD is able to do this year, but if I had to choose, I would rather have a KD than a Timmeh!

I guess Pat Forde should recant this garbage
"Ben Howland is recruiting formidably at UCLA, and California never runs out of prospects. He will be challenged, though, by rival USC, which has Tim Floyd and a new arena going for it. This rivalry could challenge North Carolina-Duke and Louisville-Kentucky as the nation's best in the coming years."
This backhanded compliment was supposed to recognize UCLA as one of the top programs in the country over the next 10 years (which is obvious, isn't it?), but even as a backhanded compliment it was completely misguided when it was made 10 days ago. It's offensive to fans of UNC, Duke, Louisville, Kentucky and UCLA, who collectively are among the best programs in NCAA history, with 27 championships and 67 final 4 appearances among them. Four of the 5 listed teams have at least as many FINAL 4 appearances as USC has NCAA tournament bids (13). USC has 11 tournament wins in 26 games, while the other 5 are ranked 1-4 and 7th in all-time tourney wins (with 100, 92, 88, 85 and 53 wins). So, USC goes out and finishes 3rd in the Pac-10 for the first time in umpteen years and wins two games in the tourney, and suddenly, it's now a part of a rivalry that matches two of the greatest ones in college hoops history? It's disgraceful even to think it.
Now that Pruitt is gone, Forde's comments seem particularly ignorant. USC has made it clear what it is as a basketball program: A "university" where players too selfish, undisciplined or unintelligent to meet Ben Howland's high standards can go to show off their streetball skills in a 1-3 year audition for the NBA, CBA or Harlen Globetrotters. A place where the coach is as likely to behave like a 20-year old buffoon as the players are (cue reference to Timmeh's toddler-level tirade at the end of the loss to UNC). That is no way to build a program, much less a storied rivalry. We will own USC for years to come, in part because of Howland, in part because of tradition, and in part because those things allow us to pick the best players to build a team with.
Now that the national media has jumped onto the USC bandwagon, let's not be concerned about their injuries as they dismount with the same lack of grace with which they hopped on.
It's just unfortunate
Ah, but you fail to see the beauty of it

A Football Note
Mustain (Arkansas) & his wide receiver buddy are transferring to SUC and will sit out this season and be eligible in '08. He'll have 3 years of eligibility left.
I hope he brings his baggage
I wonder.............

I'm not underestimating the SEC
Nestor, I think it's time to dig up that old article by the guy who played at justsc and then went to the Raiders, and who told all because the coach's son started in front of him. I can't remember the guy's name, but he explained how the money flowed in pretty eloquent detail.
Here's the real story, folks
http://www.dailynews.com/usc/ci_5972697
I don't even think the Toejam Times has even mentioned anything about him leaving school yet, let alone his difficulties in Senora Rosa's class. I could be wrong, but I read the paper everyday and I haven't seen it mentioned yet (please, no hate posts because I happen to read the rag--I enjoy it for reasons other than sports).
This story speaks for itself.
You need therapy, Barnes
It can be done. It's not easy for some. Just remember, one day at a time.
Oh, I agree
I could explain why I read it, but the reason is not that interesting, nor is it related to sports, and it has more to do with the quality (or lack thereof) of the paper in San Diego than anything.
I wish I could oblige...but I can't.
Is there a 12 step program?
What do you need beyond BN?
The comic section is great, especially when our resident psychologist does his sessions.
You get all the news you need.
The editorial section is pretty good.
The sports page can't be beat.
And someone keeps giving us all those shorts of the cheerleaders.
You can do it, Barnes. Just remember the higher power (in this case, Coach Howland.) We're all behind you.
Ack - the most freudian of typos
Now, that
Yes, yes, BN has almost all that I need to get by. It has everything you said it has. I even feel somewhat addicted to it at times. I cannot recall who it was, but someone alikened the site to porn because they were on it so much. I understand what they meant. And I'm not even speaking of the cheerleaders' shorts, although I do appreciate their shorts and tops and pretty much everything else about them.
But until BN starts posting listings of concert events and restaurant reviews and other happenings in L.A. (other than UCLA events), I have to turn to really the only source which routinely provides that info. I don't expect or want BN to turn into that kind of a site. I regret many things about the fishwrap, including its rotten slant on sports, but I do appreciate other things about it.
Also, aside from BN, I'm also addicted to reading my morning newspaper (as in, holding a real newspaper in my hand, and coffee alongside) and, like I mentioned, the paper in S.D., quite simply put, sucks. The Times has some good writers and, aside from my wife and UCLA sports, good writing is my true love. The enjoyment I get from it is worth the 50 cents a day.
So, there it is. I haven't yet been convinced to give up the habit. I'm willing to try, but it's a 19 year long addiction so far.
