Team Send Off, Wednesday, April 2nd.

Bumped. If you live or work any where around Westwood/West LA, try to make this. And if you are taking pictures please share with rest of us Bruins in exile. GO BRUINS. -N

Just got this email from the Staff Assembly, sports information should distribute it soon.

Men's Basketball Final Four Send-Off Wednesday, April 2, 3pm

UCLA students, faculty & staff are invited to attend a send-off of the Men's Basketball team on Wednesday, April 2nd, beginning at 3pm!

Fans are asked to line up on either side of Bruin Walk between the Wooden Center and JD Morgan Center as the team leaves campus for San Antonio in a quest to capture UCLA's 12th National Championship!

Wear blue, bring your spirit and help the Bruins get ready to play in our 3rd Consecutive Final Four!

GO BRUINS!

If anyone here can make it (not sure if I can, I'm in the Wilshire Center and it may be difficult to get out) it should be fun.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Would someone do me a favor
Get a mannequin from somewhere (I suppose for accuracy it should have a bit of a gut), put a Bruin Blue shirt on it, take it along to Bruin Walk and say it's me.  I'll be there in spirit.

This needs to be a seismically detectable event, Bruins.

I'm going to do my best to make this one
may even take pictures to share.

I can see it now
A crowd of a few thousand line the walk.  The moment the team comes outside, the entire crowd starts singing "Mighty Bruins."

Five days later, our guys win the title and talk of how their walk to the bus at UCLA was the personal inspiration they used during the difficult moments against Memphis and UNC.

Soon thereafter, this becomes the "Sendoff tradition" for future UCLA final 4 appearances.

Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?

Chant Ideas
"We Love You!"

Omg that's even cornier in print than I thought it would be.

Dammit..
I'm supposed to work until 4...and as an intern I'm not sure how it'll be perceived if I ask to leave work early to watch our boys take off lol...I may just go for it!

Go sick after lunch... had to GO HOME!
Phone it in.
Barf sound.
Flush the toilet.
"I'll be in FIRST THING in the morning!"

Good luck!
Go Bruins!

yeah
The only way to call in sick is to lay down in bed, close your eyes and talk as low and monotonic as possible.

They will be out somewhere between 3-330 but probably closer to 3:30

Or
Due respect to Ferris Bueller and the clammy hands, my personal favorite is vaguely alluding to stomach flu and briefly mentioning too much time spent on the toilet.  No boss, or for that matter, anyone else, will ever ask you follow up questions after that.

You're an intern
Tell them to hold your pay that day and you'll be back in a couple hours.

I don't even get paid...just more incentive to skip lol..I've only been interning a little more than a month though...little too nervous to try the Bueller...I'll make a game time decision tomorrow

Exactly!
What are they gonna do?   Dock your check?

Not to be a bad influence, and I believe in CBH and the Bruins, but you never know how often this sort of thing will come around...

Hmmmm.  No need to lie.  Just say you have an extremely important meeting at school that just came up and then offer to make up the time another day!

airport info
Does anyone know where and which line theyre flying out on?? Cant make it to Westwood. Might be able to make it to LAX.  Holla with the info!!

by PasadenaBruin on Apr 1, 2008 11:39 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

LAX - Delta
UCLA flys Delta on all flights further than Arizona.

I've traveled with both the football and basketball team.

You should see the food they get and the quality of the fly attendents on those charters!

by mr havercamp on Apr 2, 2008 7:01 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yep
And before you try to find them at the terminal, the buses normally pull up right to the plane, which may or may not be in a secluded area of the tarmac, so there's little chance you'll be able to see them at LAX

South terminal
Their flights sometimes arrive/leave at the South Terminal on Imperial.

It had to be today...
Have my graded final mock trial in Trial Advocacy at that time. Be in the middle of a direct or cross right then. Dammit, I swear I would be there if it wasn't a final.

Best of luck to the team. Win or lose you do us all proud.

The Defense Rests...
Let the P put on their case and after they rest, you casually stand up and say "Your Honor, the defense rests..." in dramatic fashion. The courtroom erupts with murmuring from the audience.

The other side then scrambles to make sense of this brilliant move exposing the weakness of their case and you go off the watch the Bruins leave for the FF.

I tell you, it was tempting.

damn, i feel guilty...
i'm not studying for the bar, doing an internship or conducting open heart surgery.  I just got kids that wont allow me to drive to the westside and keep my sanity. I'm glad to see that Bruins continue to be productive citizens in the world.  no "Mata what" happens this weekend, proud of our team and proud to be a Bruin!

Are the fates aligning?
My direct boss called in sick today... the head of the department will be at a meeting on campus nowhere near Bruinwalk... can I possibly sneak out for 45 mins?

From my spies
the area was already roped off as of 130pm.  I'm sneaking out in 10 mins, camera at the ready.  I hope I can get a good spot, since I'm on the short side and can't see anything.

by freesia39 on Apr 2, 2008 2:22 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

It was awesome..
there were hundreds of people there and the players seemed excited to have so much support.  CBH gave me a high five and even CRN was there in the crowd! The only crappy part was when KL, JS, DC, and RW were within 1 foot of where I was standing I had one of those moments that should be on a commercial when my camera said "Memory Card Full"...it was heartbreaking but it really seemed like a great send -off for our Ben Ball Warriors!

Some pics
Hi guys, I managed to take some pictures at the event since some 'Bruins in exile" requested them.  You can find them on my snapfish page:
http://www2.snapfish.com/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=220189373/a=127044405_127044405/t_=127044405
Let me know if the link works.  I missed my chance to grab pics of Westbrook and DC, those point gaurds are quick even off the court!

More info for those who couldn't attend...
Oh and the actual event was pretty quick.  The band played for about 1/2 hour and the cheerleaders and dance team were there, although they didn't really do anything from what I saw.  The team walked by, all smiles, and got on some charter buses parked in the alley between the Wooden Center and IM fields.  I would say a couple hundred students showed up for the event.  It was fun but I wish Coach could have addressed the crowd or something.

by RyanM on Apr 2, 2008 4:11 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

what I find funny...
You were standing (almost) right next to me and I didn't end up in any of those pics.

The team looks to be in good spirits and ready for action.

I'm in one of your pictures!
Haha, thanks!  I was right in front of you, wearing the black jacket in the first picture.  :)
What would John Wooden do?

I took a picture with Coach Neuheisel
that made my day.  I'll upload later tonight or tomorrow, because I'm back at work.

I was getting nervous with how long it was taking, because I said I'd be back in my office by 4pm, but once they came out of the Morgan center it went by pretty quick.

by freesia39 on Apr 2, 2008 4:15 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

RN was there?
Damn, I didn't see him.  I was standing near the Bruin bear statue.

by JWongUCLA on Apr 2, 2008 4:34 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I was near the Morgan Center
where you walk through, hang a left and you'll see the hall of fame or keep going and you'll walk straight towards lot 6.  he came out of the morgan center from there and stood there the entire time.

If he doesn't get picked up in the NBADL, I hope that a lucrative Bruin offers him a six-figure salary. I am gonna miss that man.
