Who you gonna believe, me or your lyin' eyes?

In an OC Register article on the US Condoms' Spring Football, there are some comments by coach Pete Carroll over the recent photos of his Heisman trophy-winning former quarterback cavorting with underage girls that strain credulity to the breaking point:

USC coach Pete Carroll said he doubted the veracity of photos circulating on the Internet that show Matt Leinart partying with young women at his Arizona home.

However, Carroll said he had several conversations cautioning Leinart to be mindful of his image while he was still in college.

"They photo-shopped that one, as far as I'm concerned," Carroll said of pictures that first appeared on thedirty.com. "I surely don't believe everything I see in the media."

Leinart is shown helping a young woman drink beer from a tube in one shot and he is sharing a hot tub with four women in another. After hitting the Internet, the photos were shown on "SportsCenter" and have become fodder for talk radio shows.

Apparently, Leinart has had a history of cavorting while at L.A. Trade Tech and in the months running up to this season and it has not pleased his past and present management:: Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said Wednesday he was "disappointed" in his quarterback. Leinart's Hollywood night-club visits occasionally became an issue with Carroll before the Heisman trophy winner was drafted 10th overall by the Cardinals in 2006.

"I used to talk to him all the time. He allowed himself to be scrutinized," Carroll said. "He was always mindful of doing the right thing, but he did put himself in positions where he could be scrutinized, so he kind of liked toying with it."

The article goes on with the typical persiflage, trying to rehabilitate Leinart's reputation. I highly recommend reading it for the wonderful straight lines on offer.

Wonder if they photoshopped ol' Matt receiving the Heisman?

Fight on!
