Karen Love: "Rumors are flying but none of them are true,"
Front Page in the Oregonian Sports Section
Joe Freeman of he Oregonian spoke with Karen Love, yesterday.
He reports that the Loves have not met to discuss Kevin's future and that no decision has been made. Kevin plans to come to Oregon, this week, for a family meeting.
Sorry, I looked at the HTML tag page but couldn't figure it out and don't have time this morning to struggle with it:
"The report is wrong because he hasn't made his decision yet. He's coming home this week and we'll sit down and talk about it as a family, just like we've said all along. Honestly, that's the truth."
The article says that when the rumors surfaced CBH called KL and that KL "... assured his coach that it was merely a rumor."
The leaks have harmed KL:
"Kevin called me in a panic (Tuesday) saying 'Mom I have not made a decision yet and I'm coming home to do that'. He was really upset that someone had said he declared."
The real importance of all of this is not whether KL declares or not. Yes, that is important to KL and all of us.
The real importance is that, once more, the MSM got it wrong -- this time causing KL and his family angst and pain.
They deserve to do what they have been telling us they will do -- make a sound, family decision.
There is absolutely no reason to crowd them or force them to rush the process.
The Love family, including KL, has been totally straight with the world since he declared that he was coming here. KL and his family have handled the year with grace.
They should be allowed to run their process without having to deal with rumors.
I hope KL comes back. If he plays here 4 years, I won't want to see him leave. (LMR -- you are in this group, too.)
It's wrong for the MSM, to push him out the door just so that a reporter or two can claim "credit" for the story.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Which is why he will make a decision soon..
SJH, the MSM reminds me of that great old Kirk Douglas movie, "Ace in the Hole" where he plays a reporter who keeps a cave-in victim trapped by suggesting elaborate ways to rescue him (rather than just dirctly tunneling in) and milks the whole story until the guy dies. Meanwhile, there's a whole circus/carnival and crowd around the mouth of the cave.
So typical of our "American Idol" culture.

When we heard the news this morning
Glad to hear it's all rumors, at least for now.

The 'wrap needs to get blasted for this
Shame on the fishwrap. They have hit the daily double. First we get UCLA covered by a trOJie, although he swears he will be honest and objective as he turns his back on bu$hgate ("just a disgruntled agent") and the White Nation ("oh, those rascals - what will those kids do next?") and goes looking for more Bruin athletes who got an anonymous bag of groceries. Then we get this drivel.
It's too bad I don't subscribe so I can cancel. And I elect not to click on their website or links in case that affects their circulation numbers. But I know what I would do if I were the SID: "Memo to Fishwrap: You will not get any press credentials this year - but you are eligible to buy season tickets."

For those of you
Howland addresses Love's, Collison's, and Westbrook's draft status during his press conference as "I have no comment on that at this time. I will allow these young men to announce their decisions on their own."
Love takes a few days to "talk about it" with his parents (because the topic certainly hasn't come up before-lol). Collison does the same.
Love and Collison hold their press conferences and announce (gasp!) that they will declare for the NBA draft and hire agents.
Westbrook, who during this time has received an assessment of his draft stock, shortly afterwards does the same.
There, sorry to ruin it for you.

I Don't Think Any of Us Doubt How the Movie
But, I think, out of respect for the players and their families, the MSM ought not tell the ending as if they've seen the movie. They haven't. It hasn't been released and neither have preview copies.
Said another way, they are reporting as fact events that have yet to happen. They may be predicting, correctly -- and if so should label it predictions or guesses, or speculation.
Kevin Love should not have to have it appear that he told the world before telling CBH -- or tell his mom that he hasn't said anything publicly about declaring.

The Wire
The really scary part in The Wire and in these reports is that after the reporters make stuff up, readers including those with influence take actions based on the assumption (erroneous) that the reporters had valid sources with accurate info.
Admittedly, potential distortions in the athletic process at UCLA don't compare to potential mayhem on big city streets. Nevertheless, it would be really refreshing just for once if the Dohns and Pucins of the world would just shut up until they had actual, verifiable stories, rather than keeping their pipelines full with bullshit, unverified nonsense. I would hate to think that our student-athletes think that they need to make hasty, non-carefully thought out decisions simply because the local media have stoked the flames.

Ahh, to be able to set a deposition
But at the end of the day, I think these guys would be shown to be dilletantes and fools.

You caught me at a great time
I would love to take on these so called reporters.
I've often thought the most important of all courtroom skills was the ability to ask hard, direct questions and to force responsive answers.
Obviously, both of us would like to put them under oath -- to create some "risk" for them if they don't tell the truth.
The way things work, now, they are actually rewarded, by website hits and reader numbers for fabricating or stretching.
Back to the depo's -- thanks for the break.

Real?
Was a legal services lawyer, Central Valley of CA, a law professor and a trial consultant. Throughout all, I've been a trial lawyer. I've done both civil and criminal litigation.
I don't know if that makes me real or not.
Was pushing through depo's last night because I'm consulting on a case now in trial, and was needed to work on a cross. Kept me up all night. Remembered what it was like to be a young lawyer.
How about you?

It's a mixed blessing
If, once again, we are the Baby Bruins, the joy we once got in the simpler things will return.
