Mr. BB sent me this link this morning. It's kind of old news, but still entertaining.

Kai Forbath is one of the top 3 finalists for this year's Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, which goes to the nation's top collegiate place-kicker. Can you think of anyone who deserves it more?

This link doesn't have the news, but scout.com shows him as a UCLA commit. He is a former Minnesota commit who has blasted a 67-yard FG, so he obviousloy has a huge leg. Since Forbath is a junior this is a great pickup. Hopefully he will continue the tradition of great UCLA kickers.

Stewart Mandel forecasts the bowls at the link below. He is imagining a world in which too many teams have 7 wins for a 6-6 team (his prediction for us and Notre Dame) to make it.

So whoever said in the ASU game thread that we need to beat U$C to go to justify us going to a bowl this year might be right. Just one more motivation for Saturday.

Looks like Mobley's backed out of his original commitment to UCLA and picked Arizona over UCLA. This isn't particularly surprising, since there had been some rumblings ever since he didn't enroll that he was looking elsewhere.

Shame though, since we have a lot of need at DT, both short-term and long-term.

The Bears promoted running back Kahlil Bell from the practice squad today after placing Garrett Wolfe (lacerated kidney) on injured reserve.

Bell, an undrafted rookie free agent from UCLA, could see time on special teams and will move into the role of third running back behind starter Matt Forte and backup Adrian Peterson.
.....
"I'm just happy to be here," Bell said. "It's been a dream since I've been a little kid to be at this level. If I get the opportunity to contribute, I'll be living the dream."

Bears coach Lovie Smith offered high praise for Bell.

"Kahlil has been around here for a while," Smith said. "Whenever you're on the practice squad, you go against the No. 1 defense. Good football player. We brought him here for a reason.

"Whenever you keep a young running back on your practice squad, he can do some things.Good runner. Good size. He can catch the ball. He can do all the things you want a running back to do."
