The Minnesota recalled rookie Malcolm Lee from their NBA Developmental League affiliate on Tuesday, but anxious Timberwolves fans hoping he is the answer to the team’s woes at shooting guard will have to be patient.

According to Peter Yoon, UCLA will play it's Spring Game on Cinco de Mayo at the Rose Bowl. Spring practices will begin on April 3.

Thompson also compared the role of a recruiter to being a car salesman: You know at the end of the day you want the recruit to buy your product and you’ll do whatever it takes to sell him on your program, but the good recruiters are the ones that make sure that product really fits the features and priorities the kid has in mind. For example, a recruit might say his top three priorities are academics, playing time, and the geography/location, but the recruiter has to peel back the onion to determine in what order those are really the priorities, to make sure that what Cal can offer is really a fit.

Today's NY Times relates that U.C.L.A. took a look at NBA sensation Jermey Lin.

Former assistant coach Kerry Keating spoke to Lin and took a pass on the kid. The Gray Lady reports:

I said, ‘We can’t give you a scholarship right away,’ " said Kerry Keating, a former U.C.L.A. assistant who spoke to Lin after watching him in a high school game. "I thought he could have played for us. He certainly could have made an impact for us, looking back on it. But at the time, you never really know. It’s an inexact science."

In those three good years he went 97-17 (85.1%), 13-3 in the NCAA tournament. But in the other five and a half years he's 105-76 (58.0%) with just two tournament wins. By comparison, Lavin had a better record for his worst five years 97-61 (61.4%) and won six tournament games. Want to toss out his first year using "Lavin's players"? (You wouldn't want to if he had a good year with them, would you?) Then he's an identical 94-59 (61.4%).
