Sports Network | November 02, 2008
Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - Matt Bryant drilled a 34-yard field goal in overtime, after Tampa Bay scored a late touchdown and two-point conversion to get to the extra session, to give the Buccaneers a 30-27 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.
Jeff Garcia, who finished the day 31-for-43 for 339 yards, completed his only touchdown throw with 19 seconds left in the game to Antonio Bryant, bringing Tampa Bay within 27-25.
He then threaded a pass between two defenders to Alex Smith, who was injured on the play, to tie the game. In overtime, the Buccaneers had the ball first and got past midfield thanks to a 29-yard catch-and-run to Michael Clayton.
Tampa Bay worked the ball down to the 20-yard line, setting up Matt Bryant before a false start moved the team back five yards. Garcia's 11-yard pass to Jameel Cook set the Bucs up at the 16 on 4th-and-1, and Bryant split the uprights to give his team the win.
Antonio Bryant finished with eight catches for 115 yards for Tampa Bay (6-3), which pulled out the win despite committing four turnovers, including a Garcia interception and two fumbles by running back Earnest Graham -- who ran 19 times for 62 yards, and threw a TD to Smith.
Tyler Thigpen threw for 164 yards and a score on 14-of-25 passing for Kansas City (1-7), which lost its fourth consecutive game despite scoring 24 points in the first half -- more than the Chiefs had tallied in five entire games this season.
Thigpen also caught a TD from Mark Bradley, while rookie Jamaal Charles ran 18 times for 106 yards in place of Larry Johnson, who was deactivated for the contest because of off-the-field issues.
Kolby Smith ran 10 times for 46 yards and a TD for Kansas City before leaving in the second quarter with a right knee sprain.
