Berkeley, CA (Sports Network) - Jerome Randle poured in a game-high 24 points in leading the California Golden Bears past the Pacific Tigers, 68-56, in non- conference play at Haas Pavilion.
Randle made 4-of-6 shots from long distance and 8-of-9 at the foul line, as Cal (1-0) kicked off the Mike Montgomery era on a high note. Patrick Christopher added 18 points to the mix, while Theo Robertson chipped in with 10 points.
James Doran and Lavar Neufville each scored 10 points to pace Pacific (0-1) in the loss.
Cal knocked down 54.5 percent of its field goals, including 6-of-9 from downtown, as it opened a 36-20 lead at the break.
In the second stanza, the Bears converted 16-of-18 free-throw attempts on their way to the 12-point win.
On the night, Cal made good on 8-of-15 shots from beyond the arc and 22-of-27 at the charity stripe.
