Dorrell Lied About Cowan Coughing Up Blood?
Bumped. - N
Earlier this week Dorrell himself floated reports that Cowan was apparently coughing up blood after the Oregon game. Here was Dohn's report on Monday:
"He had some problems on the way home from Oregon where it started to swell," Dorrell said. "He was coughing up some blood a little bit, so we went and took him to the emergency room when he landed." I'd assume the story of Cowan coughin up blood was being floated to take heat off Dorrell's decision to quit in the last 5 mins of the Oregon game (when the team was not in hurry up mode).
Well except there is one problem here. It was a lie apparently. Apparently Cowan (eventhough his throat is still little sore) is doing fine and he never coughed up blood during the Oregon game: Quarterback Patrick Cowan, who did not call signals in practice to help save his voice, said that he doesn't expect inflammation around his vocal cords to be a problem Saturday.
"I'm fine, I can talk," said Cowan, who added that he did not cough up blood after last week's game against Oregon even though that had been reported. This is pretty incredible. What was Dorrell doing telling the press that Cowan was coughing up blood when Cowan himself is now saying he never coughed blood. Something is seriously f*cked up here. Was Dorrell lying intentionally? Will someone follow up on this and ask for an explanation? Who floated this rumor?
So if the Bruins don't win this weekend, what will be the (lying?) excuse next game week?

He does have that deer in the headlights look
Largely because I'd like to get the bad after taste of Cal's thrashing by Tennessee out of the national media's mouth, which is getting pretty close since Cal is now ranked ABOVE Tennessee.
I'm just sick and tired of everyone saying how weak the Pac-10 is, amazing considering the computers have the Pac-10 ranked as the toughest conference in the nation and we still have to hear crap about how weak we are.
So here is one Trojan hoping you beat the living crap out of those freakin' Irish and make fat Charlie Weis lose five pounds in water from sweating.
However...
Given KD's recent coaching, I have some real serious doubts. I mean the guy's demeanor is so after the fact. Making adjustments after they lose. Always altering the reasons why something didn't work out and this blood coughing confusion really makes one believe that he's just really way past his depth.
The fact of the matter is that DeWayne Walker (a PC protege!) has really brought a good aggressive attitude to the Bruin defense. Recognizing that you don't have the strength and size advantage right now for a lot of teams, he's made up for it with ball hawking, flying to the ball and committing early in plays to take chances.
The fact that KD is totally hands off on the sidelines (not to mention comatose) has allowed Walker to dial up the energy on the D.
The same can't be said with the O. Coach S seems afflicted with the same paralysis that got Larry Kerr run over by opposing offenses each week. And each time Dorrell really seems clueless about how to fix his program.
I feel Bruin pain since we had it with Ted Tollner, Larry Smith, John Robinson Part II and Godawful Paul Hackett (hence the decade long losing streak to UCLA), but Bruin fans have every right to call for dumping Dorrell since any college coach who has had the time to recruit the guys he wants and install his offense and schemes and still seems to wilt at crucial moments is NOT going to get better.
As an even more interesting contrast, everyone at USC is up in arms about how poorly we seem to be doing this year, ekeing out wins, but we're still 6-0 and No. 2 in the BCS and fans cut PC a lot of slack not only because of his past success, but also because he exhibits a relentless fearlessness in being aggressive. I mean USC is 8-11 so far this year in fourth down conversion attempts!
You look at Coaches like Dorrell dumping out in the fourth quarter of the Oregon game, or Dirk Koetter inexplicably punting and letting us run out the clock and compare it to guys like Carroll, Bill Doba or even Ty Willingham who will push their guys to keep fighting right down to the last second, you just have to say that Dorrell just doesn't have the right stuff.
Good luck against the Irish!
BTW...for anyone going to Chicago, I strongly recommend celebrating or drowning your sorrows at The Lodge on Division Street near Rush, arguably one of the best and most fun dive bars I've been too!
