Happy Halloween

M already had the first post game thread up. But since this is the Halloween weekend and all thought this was fitting.

Just in case you need ideas for tonight's parties in Westwood and elsewhere in the Bruins Nation, here is our own sfatoo:

I don't have anything to add to that for tonight.

This is our second post game open thread.  Fire away. Keep it coming. People are taking note.

GO BRUINS.

Dump Dorrell T-Shirt Proof
I threw together a simple design (That does not violate any copyrights) for the Dump Dorrell T-shirt. If I go through with this all proceeds will go to UCLA Children's Hospital (The one T.J. Simers promotes)

Let me know what you think.

The final image will be sharp. Converting it to jpg for hosting degraded it a bit. Once I have the Bruins Nation approval I will post a web site for ordering your shirt. All shirts ordered by Wednesday will be printed and shipped hopefully in time for that weeks game. I am not doing this to turn a profit. I am so disgusted by tonight's game I demand change in Westwood. Please help me take it to the streets.

The real winner here would be the kids. If we can raise $1000 we can make Tommy Lasorda work harder at the Christmas party in December.

Honestly
I think we could do a tad better (not I, of course, as I lack any skill whatsoever in this area).  Among other things, I think it's already too late.  But, I'm tired and bitter, and probably shouldn't be consulted on such things- at least not now.

That said, once a design is put together, I will certanly buy t-shirts for everyone in my family.  It's a great idea.

Truly awesome
Honestly, that is frick'n great.  My son is way too young to appreciate trick or treating, but I may just have to go anyways, just to wear that.  Bravo.

Brilliant!
Only thing missing is the headset. Plus a dumb, expressionless, lost look that only KD can do. Otherwise, truly perfect!

I am sick of this...
It's unfortunate and it's absolutely awful and disgusting that I now have to root for my Bruins to get blown in our next 4 games. I just don't think Dorrell will get fired any other way. He has to be thoroughly blown out by each of our next opponents for this dreadful experiment to be finally be over. I hate to this and it's absolutely the last resort but this program is going nowhere under Dorrell. I was at the Rose Bowl today and I have never seen a crowd empty so fast as the Rose Bowl did today. I mean, it's not like we were losing by a 40 points midway through the the third quarter. We were still very much in the game, yet everyone still left. It seems that everyone is just disgusted and tired of this pisspoor coaching.

It sucks and it is extremely to root against a team I love so much, but the only way I see Dullard getting fired by the end of the year is for DG and the rest of the nation to see us tannk in our next 4 games. This program is going nowhere, and I'm hopeful DG will see that.

That 10-2 season last year is becoming more and more of a bad thing. If Dullard goes 6-5 last year (which he really should have), he could be gone by now.

Anyway, if (god willing) Dullard is fired at the end of this season, here are my top 5 coaching candidates-

1.Steve Kragthorpe(Tulsa-HC)-Unfortunately right now Kragthorpe is being courted by UNC (more reason to fire Dorrell now), but this guy reminds me of Ben Howland. Not so much in philosophy, but more in the fact that he took a long-dormant program in Tulsa (Howland did this with Pitt and NAU) and has turned them into a mid major power. Also, thought of as a QB guru (love to see what he could do with Ben), as he has had previos coaching positions as a QB coach at the Buffalo Bills. At Tulsa, in his previous three seasons he has won more games than the program had won in that last ten years. At this point in the season Tulsa is 7-1 and heading to back 2 back C-USA championships.

2.Butch Davis (Unemployed)-In order for this to even be a possibility, Miami must not fire Larry Coker this year! So everyone (I know how hard it is considering 12/5/98) cheer for the Canes! One of the best college coaches there is. Plain and simple. Pretty much a can't miss prospect who would definately challend Pom Pom for those 5 star recruits. Of, course, would be extremely expensive, but would be well worth it. It's time the athletic department makes a commitment to football rather than keeping afloat no-money sports such as girls swimming and so forth.

3.Tom O Brien (Boston College-HC)-Another great prospect. Does an amazing job with very little talent at an academically rigourous instutition. Boston College is consistently an ACC Championship contender and are uanother perennial top-25 team.

4.Bo Pelini (LSU-DC)-The best Defensive Coordinator in college football. Everywhere he goes his defenses are nasty and ranked among the elite. Has a small amount of Head Coaching experience as he was named the interim coach at Nebraska after Frank Solich was fired. Needless, to say, his Nebraska dominated their bowl game. Looking back, Nebraska probably should have kept Pelini rather than hiring Callahan.

5.George O Leary (UCF-HC)-Took one of worst programs in the country and has them now challenging Tulsa for a C-USA championship. Last year, of course, they lost to Tulsa in the C-USA conference championship game. Has previous head coaching experience (yeah, I know about the whole ND scandal, but I don't really care) and would be a great hire.

P.S. I don't want anything to do with Rick Neuheisel, if we make the right move and fire KD, we should try to once and for all sever ties with former Donahue cronies.

What about Greg Schaino (Rutgers)
I like what he's done with that program. Seems like a good up and coming type of a coach, like Urban Meyer was. He may be a bit inexperienced for UCLA, but it's pretty impressive what he's done over in Rutgers

awesome
then we can knock miami down even further by hiring him!

by sfatoo on Oct 29, 2006 1:18 AM PDT up reply actions

new coach
I don't think they'll pay up for a Butch Davis. I'd go after Norm Chow.  Schiano is successful because he can recruit in Jersey and Florida, he wouldn't have that in California.  Finally, I'd also go after Mike Price...

by tasser10 on Oct 29, 2006 7:06 AM PDT up reply actions

I don't think
Chow would be a good HC. I think he lacks people skills and would be a poor recruiter, as well as a poor communicator. Maybe hire him as an OC but not a HC

Halloween
I think I've been inspired to dress up as KD for Halloween.  I wonder if it would be in bad taste if I also apply some fake blood/injuries when I show up for work on campus.

Brilliant, but ...
... there's too much animation. And your eyes need to have the deer-in-the-headlights look.

What the hell!
Sorry, but I just got back from a halloween party and am somewhat wasted, but what the F__K happened tonight! Had a discussion with a fellow Bruin during my cab ride home about how sad this season is becoming.

And Alcor, whenever you get that shirt design going, sign me up for an XL please. I won't be able to make it to the Roes Bowl this season, but I'll be there in spirit.

thanks for the compliments
it was funny when i'd get a dirty look and then i'd blurt out something like "let's just run it up the gut 6 times" or "go for fourth? that's a kicking down!" i probably should have done a better job of posing with a deer in headlights look, but I just had to emphasize the "FIRE DORRELL" part of the costume.

Both the shirt designs are nice, but something I was thinking would be cool would be like a shadowed open-jawed dorrell (remember how those mata t-shirts looked) with a big X on it on a bruin blue background so we can wear it to the games. I'd try to do it myself with my weak photoshop skills, but I'm getting ready to head out of town for a week after a morning flight.

I'm in for one of whatever BN ultimately decides on going with. Thanks again for the compliments and GO BRUINS!

second
of the three designs that alcor has posted is my preference. But, whatever is decided on, I'm in for.

It really is unfortunate that it has come down to this; I remember the "Lose Lavin" campaign in 2002-03; I had hoped that such an action would never againe be necessarry at UCLA, but alas, it seems that the time has come.

Makes you wonder...
I understand that people are always looking for a promotion or more money...but it was amazing how fast KD's staff ran out of the program last year when they got other offers, after just one good season.  Maybe they knew that this was a sinking ship.  I'd love to hear Bieniemy's and Cable's real thoughts...

I am definitely not an expert
when it comes to t-shirt designing.  I will leave it up to you guys (personally I go for something, simple, poignant without the skull and bones but that's just my 2 cents).

but whatever you guys come up with - not only will I buy it - I along with others here I am sure will be promoting it heavily.

Go Bruins.

T-Shirt Status
dumpdorrell and I are working on various proofs. A student on campus e-mailed me offering his photoshop skills. Hopefully we'll have 3-4 proofs up for a vote by tomorrow. Many people have e-mailed me requesting the shirts be ready in time for OSU on 11/11. If we stay on the following schedule, we should be ok:
10/30 : 3-4 proofs are up for voting.
11/1  : A winner is chosen by BruinsNation
11/2  : An simple order site is up and accepting orders(All proceeds going to UCLA Children's Hospital via TJ Simers on/around Dec 3rd)
11/8  : All orders placed will be filled and delivered hopefully in time for the game(Even if I have to deliver them via a pick up truck at the Rose Bowl, I will be in L.A. anyway that weekend)
