Maxwell Pundit (aka the Blog Heisman) Week 11
We are coming down the final stretch now. Continuing with our weekly voting on Maxwell Pundit. Here are my 5 choices for the MVP from week 11. No changes in the top -3 from my vote in week 10. But imagine things will shake up a little after this coming Saturday:
Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame: The equation is simple now. If Troy Smith wins he will jump into the top spot. If Mike Hart has a phenomenal game leading the Wolverines to a huge win at Columbus, then he may jump to the top slot. However at this point given his performance from last weekend (14 of 19 for 207 yards, 4 TDs and 0 picks) BQ stays at the top spot at least for one more week. His season numbers: 2786 yards passing, 64 percent completion, 29 TDs and 4 picks. Amazing numbers and I will say it again BQ is more valuable to this team than Troy Smith is to mighty tOSU.
Troy Smith, QB, Ohio State:After hitting the cruise control button against Illinois, Smith was back in full form against Northwestern in Buckeyes DOMINATING 54-10 win. His numbers were close to Brady's weekend numbers: 12 of 19 for 185 yards, 4 TDs and 1 pick. And his season numbers are fantastic. If Troy beats Wolverines this award will belong to him.
Mike Hart, RB, Michigan:Oh yeah Michigan. Mike Hurt still lurking with another solid effort against Indiana (92 yards in 19 caries and 1 Td). Not spectacular but solid. He now has almost 1400 yards in this season with 11 TD. If he carries Wolverines to a huge win over the Buckeyes this weekend he will have a very good case for this award considering he rushed for 124 yards playing a huge role in Wolverines smashing of the Irish in South Bend. This is now a three-way race.
Raymell Rice, RB, Rutgers:The latest entry in BN's ballot. If you are a college football fan, I am sure you have heard of this name by now. He has been lot of people's radar the whole season. However, after his last performance - 131 yards rushing (5.95 avg.) and 2 TDs against Louisville - Rice is a player we should all get to know. His season numbers are pretty impressive. 1334 yards, 15 TDs, averaging 5.44 yards a carry. Rice is a long shot at this point. But he has more than earned himself a slot in the top-5 players in the country as Rutgers continue to have their dream season.
Ian Johnson, RB, Boise State: Ian is back in this list. He had another great game this weekend, rushing for 149 yards (5.14 avg) and 1 TD, propelling BSU a win over San Jose State. But on a very sad note he was hospitalized with a collapsed lung he suffered sometime during the game. His status for BSU's last game against Utah is up in the air. Let's hope he gets healthy and is not rushed back. He has already had an amazing season:
His season numbers are best of this bunch: 1466 yards, 21 TDs averaging 6.60 yards a carry. Sure he is not facing the competition Mike Hart faces every Saturday in the Big-10. But it would have be fun to see how he fares against a big time program. Let's hope he is well rested and healthy and gets to showcase his talent in a bigger stage should the Broncos get to play in a major bowl game. We are rooting for him.
Dropped from this list - Marshawn Lynch and Colt McCoy. McCoy suffered an injury in Texas's big loss against Kansas State, and Lynch's team blew it against Arizona.
As always if there are others who are worthy of top-5 mention, please let me know in this thread.
GO BRUINS.
