Massive (Expectations) Hype Begins for 2007

While everyone is talking about the number 1 ranked Ben Ball warriors, expectations (for 07-08) are already sky rocketing for the best football team in Los Angeles.

SPJ is on WWL's college football home page:

Here is the link to the insider article ($) with a team-by-team look at the Pac-10. Can't reprint what's in it. But, I will give you a hint. They are expecting UCLA to contend for a lot more than just the Rose Bowl when they get to face off against the (maybe Pom Pom-less) whiners from Southern Cal on December 6, 2007. In other words, it will not be just us saying BCS or bust for Karl Dorrell in 2007.

First things first, though. Unless Dorrell and company take care of business on December 27, 2006, all these good vibes will evaporate right away.

GO BRUINS.

Cautious Optimism
The hype for our team going into '07 is great. In fact, a National Title is a believable goal (not realistic, but believable). With Cal, UO, Notre Dame, and BYU all coming into the Rose Bowl, we can get some great wins. One thing still worries me though:

@ USC.

Our victory over the SCum was amazing, but we also had a shot 2 years ago at the Granddaddy. In between, however.... Nobody has beaten USC in the Coliseum for years. YEARS. I would rather have played them at home in '07, were our Pac-10 title hopes would have a chance at survival. Remember, they return almost as many starters as we do, from what was already a VERY talanted squad.

We'll see. Let's smash the Seminoles first.

Duke and North Carolina called: They want Steve Lavin back. GO BRUINS!!

Interesting
that they had BO's pic, not Cowan's, eh?

Read the "Insider" blurb
they are counting on Southpaw Jesus to be reintegrated into Bruin offense this coming Spring.

This could get very interesting because from other players' comments it's pretty clear they love St. Patrick.

I love him too!
How can you not? A gritty, tough kid, unheralded, low-key, humble, helps give you the biggest win in the program in a long long time. He didn't say a word during the losing streak, just worked on his game and got better.

That being said, winning also brings a lot of love, and I think SPJ will get us more wins in the long run. You have to remember, he's a little older than the other guys so maybe they can't relate to him as much. But I think it would send a very bad message to the other players if Cowan was given the starting job, without so much as a competition.

Beating FSU
Is more important to the Bruins right now.

If SPJ gets it done against FSU it will do wonders for recruiting.

UCLA v FSU Dec 27 will be the only game aired and its in PRIMETIME Baby!!!!

GO Bruins!!!

SPJ > St. Patrick

(We all know its true, I still love Cowan though)

I am happy for Nestor
As I have said Time and Again there is a lot of quality writing and work done on this site. I just don't agree with the tone.

But the sports content is top notch!

The tone
Where do we send our stuff to make sure "the tone" is OK before we post?  Could it be that "the tone" mocks sc by hitting dead center, on target in open sores?  Should we make sure that "the tone" is acceptable when we call out the various sc "student athletes" who are __.  (You fill in the blank -- there are many applicable words.)  Is "the tone" bad when we laugh at your coach's absurd website touting himself as a "humanitarian."

Seems to me that "the tone" is nothing but truth.  CC, listen to "the tone."  It will help you clean up your act, so there may one day be a reason for so many sc people to be so arrogant.

Anyway, I hope "the tone" of this is acceptable.  It's acceptable to me, anyway.

I guess what has set me off about "the tone" is the pettiness of your post.  You can't even give Nestor an straight compliment without some negative ringer in it.  That's "the tone" that I find sort of pathetic.

End of rant.  Shouldn't have bothered.

fox
I'm pretty sure he's refering to the f-bombing, and the wishes of death upon people or whatever, not the jabbing and rivalry related posts making fun of southern cal.

by ranelar on Dec 12, 2006 9:41 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

f-bombing
ranelar ... there will be no regret here on BN for f-bombing Trojans.

They don't have any moral standing on lecturing us on that topic. It will take you 2-3 mins probably finding youtube videos of Pom Pom launching those towards referees if not the opposing coaches.

Anyways ...

by Nestor on Dec 13, 2006 4:40 AM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I guess I took "the tone" personally
I make it a point to "speak" in these posts in complete sentences, without using any profanity.  (I must qualify that last statement.  I believe "sc" and "trojan" are terms that should not be used in polite society.) In my opinion, profane language (from the mildest to the strongest) generally detracts from one's argument.  In my experience, those who drop the most f-bombs in a sentence generally have the least to say, and lack the skill of effective self-expression.  Once in a while, for emphasis, I will concede the effectiveness of strident language.

Having said all that, I didn't perceive CC's comments to be about inappropriate language at all.  I thought (and I still think) that he didn't like anything that resembled a potshot being taken.

Nestor does not need me (or any of us) to defend him.  Nonetheless, I also thought it was very condescending for CC to give Nestor a well-deserved compliment, and then immediately take it back by including a negative comment.  Frankly, sc's coach showed more class than that in his post-game interviews.

This turned into a rant.  Don't know why.  My apologies to all who elected to read the whole thing.

Tone
I have to say, I do respect Paragon SC.  I have read his posts, and his blog, and I have to say, he seems very fair.  But, how would the tone be if they had pounded us into the dirt again, not necessarily from Paragon, but from his bloggers in general?  I had still smiling ..............

by bluebruin on Dec 12, 2006 8:34 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

well
I dont wanna turn this into "another one of those threads", but yea sc boards woulda been ramming us, and the the average tommy blogger would surely have had some choice words, but the difference is that we dont have to do it ourselves.  I'm all for the jokes and the mocking and whatnot; things like the trojan excuses for losing post, pictures of petey's pain... things that have to do with sports, our schools, the average intelligence of the the other guy -- rivalry stuff.  But some of the posts have been rather vitriolic, and it does set an awkward tone.  As far as I'm concerned it's in the past, but since paragon was jumped on for making a fair enough statement, I figured I'd reply.
