Questions I Would Ask the Coaches at S.E.C. Media Days Bar-right-arrows

LEGENDS: SPECIAL OPEN THREAD

This may be shaping as one of the most incredible weekends in the history of UCLA athletics.

Our grid iron warriors ended the streak last night reclaiming the ownership of City of Angels.

Men's soccer will be going for Championship number 100 this afternoon (against UCSB at 3:00 pm EST, ESPN 2).

And late this afternoon we will have the Ben Ball warriors - number 1 in the nation - going up against UCR (preview from BBR). So lot's going on. So this is a special weekend CELEBRATION OPEN THREAD as a tribute to New Legends of Bruin Gridiron.

Thanks so much to BN blogger omnigeno for that beauty. Click on it to get a bigger image. It could be the latest breakground for your desk/laptop.

Revel.

Celebrate.

Rejoice.

Cheers.

And then celebrate again and again.

FIRE AWAY IN THIS SPECIAL SUNDAY OPEN THREAD.

GO BRUINS.

What a beatutiful day,,,
Yesterday is something that I will remember for the rest of my life.  This is now my 2nd favorite memory in the rivalry behind Marvin Goodwin in 1993.  Just to shut all those cocky assholes up is something we all haven't felt in 7 years.  To go to the grocery store this morning and see a new bandwaggon forming, not a SUCk shirt in sight, but everyone was wearing their Bruin blues today.

In the first quarter when the game was still scoreless, I looked at my dad and told him "something is different today.  It just feels different."  His response, "don't get ahead of yourself, the game just started."  There was something in the air yesterday that I can't explain.  When SC went up 9-7 I didn't have that fear of losing that I had in years past.  I knew we were going to get things done.  When SC was making that last drive, I seriously thought back to 93 and said, we need that one more time.

After EM intercepted that pass, all I can remember is me jumping up and down, giving high fives to everyone in the seats around me, and turning to my dad and giving him a big hug.  At that point I was fighting back tears of joy.  I forgot what it felt like to beat SC.  It is just such a beautiful thing.  On that drive home, even this morning, every now and then I will just chuckle and smile.  Yesterday was one of the best days of my life.

Go Bruins!! Fuck SC!!

Something in the air
I have been feeling it for last two weeks Jay.

I have been making the argument TrOJans were not as invincible as all the blowhards from the traditional media were making them out to be.

I knew it'd be like 2004. But this time we were going against QB/RB not as talented as Leinart and Bush. Plus we had the better D.

I felt it.

Bandwagon TrOJans
I was wondering what bandwagon TrOJan fan would do.

Right after Texas won the championship, I had to travel to San Diego on business.  I was all pimped out in my Longhorns championship gear, and in the hotel elevator, a guy actually said the following:

"Yeah I was a huge Trojans fan for the last two seasons, but after that game, I became a huge Longhorns fan!"

He said it with a straight face.  I honestly wanted to smack the guy.

Not looking good
UCSB is living in the attacking third, and shot one over the crossbar and one off the post.

They are attacking like crazy.

Long way to go HB
We didn't score until the second half yesterday.

Let me explain how big yesterday is to Mr. BB.  He has always loved Mr. Potato Head.  In fact, he has a Mr. Potato Head on his fridge.  Mr. BB is a cheesehead and bleeds green and gold.  Mr. Potato Head smiles when the Packers win, frowns when they lose.  Yesterday, Mr. BB said, "I don't care what happens tomorrow.  Mr. Potato Head is smiling for at least a week."

I will keep him to his word.  The Packers are taking it up the ass from the Jets right now.

Tough call
Hard to decide who to root for but I'm gonna say I really hope UCLA pulls off the victory for #100!  I still have no voice from shouting so much at the Rose Bowl yesterday--- GO BRUINS!

by ucsbbruinfan on Dec 3, 2006 12:19 PM PST   0 recs

COLD
Both teams should have just flown home last night and played the game in Thousand Oaks or something.

by MOlson on Dec 3, 2006 12:23 PM PST   0 recs

Wind
haha seriously - although I live in T.O. and it pretty damn windy right now...

I believe it
Mr. BB grew up in Simi.  I know what it's like.

Just to clarify, we just got hosed on a play on.

Should have been a PK.

Thank you Bruins!
I am a Longhorns fan, but today, ich bin auch ein Bruins fan.

Thank you Bruins for saving all of us from yet another month of ESPN Pete Carroll knob gobbling, and from yet another month of ESPN "bestest team of all time" fluffcake.

Thank you for saving us from a "4-Pete" - What, only because the final score was 41-38 doesn't mean the Trojans weren't #1 in some poll.  Let's just print those 5-Pete shirts right now.  Oh golly gee whiz, that Pete Carroll is so dreamy, let's just make it an even dozen.

I can't stand Pete Carroll.  I can't stand the uncritical USC media coverage.  I can't stand their disgusting sense of entitlement.  I can't stand their creative approach to student-athlete and student-athlete-parent housing.

For that matter, I can't stand former USC running backs who turn their ex-wives and their ex-wives' "friends" into human Pez dispensers.

Today is one of those days when the sun just shines a bit brighter, the air seems a bit crisper, and the birds are singing just a bit more.

I hate Southern Cal.  I am so happy they lost, and got plunked from the championship game.  I am so happy I got to see that look on Pete Carroll's face right after the final INT.  I am so glad I got to see JD Booty pick his nose while the clock was spinning towards zero.

Thank you Bruins.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Well said.  Hope McCoy turns out alright.  Sorry about Snead leaving.

Just think of it
As us returning the favor for the Rose Bowl.  Vince Young will always have a special place in my heart.  The day after that game, I sent a congratulatory email to my friends who are Texas Exes.  I still can't stop doing Hook 'Em Horns.

by bruinbabe2000 on Dec 3, 2006 12:33 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

It comes full circle
We roundly and heartily congratulated the Longhorns when they shattered the farce that was the "greatest team ever" in the Rose Bowl. That was a great way to start the year.

Hope you guys didn't mind us using the "hook 'em horns" earlier this year, it was just the perfect way to rile up those assholes during basketball season.

by Tydides on Dec 3, 2006 12:40 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Juic'd
Go ahead and Hook 'em all you want - anything to rile up the TrOJans is OK with me!

I just thought of this one:

Southern Cal really got JUIC'd by UCLA yesterday!

by Forklift on Dec 3, 2006 12:43 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

not the best team ever
ESPN crowned them the 3rd best team ever about 3 weeks before the Rose Bowl.

Question
What was that strange thing Karl Dorrell did with his face a couple of times during yesterday's game?  Was he displaying ...emotions?  Could somebody please explain that concept to me?

Sincerely,

Messrs. Spock and Data.

by Forklift on Dec 3, 2006 12:53 PM PST   0 recs

Answer
Playing for his job.  It got his neck out of the noose for at least one more year.

I like Dorrell as a person, though I have major doubts about his coaching.

We'll debate that later.  Right now, we're on a major high.

by bruinbabe2000 on Dec 3, 2006 12:56 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Karl is a stoic "Thinker"
At least, that's what the Los Angeles Times tells us.

He could just have zero charisma.  That would be my guess.

But it was nice to see the emotion chip installed for yesterday.

Settle and attack.

Idiots at Fox
Would rather me see garbage time with the 49ers and Saints instead of the start of my Cowboys.

Ok, I glanced at my wallpaper with Eric McNeal.  All is well again.

Losing in soccer and Cowboys losing
Time for a Tito's Tacos run.  I need to be back for basketball.

by bruinbabe2000 on Dec 3, 2006 1:33 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Titos Tacos
Funny you mention that.  I told my dad on the way to the game, "If we win today, I'm buying us Johnnies for dinner."  Money well spent, let me tell you.  And to see a SUCk fan there all depressed made my victory dinner that much better.

by UCLA Jay on Dec 3, 2006 3:21 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Tacos!
I haven't had Tito's Tacos in years!  Of course when one lives in Europe and Asia for years, and then on the east coast, it can be difficult to get the real stuff.  Next time I'm in L.A., time for some tacos.

Sorry had to get in one cheer for my school!!  Hopefully Women's Volleyball will pull in #100----

Couch watch
I have to watch my wife (a Gaucho) tonight to make sure she doesn't instinctively drag our couch into the street and light it on fire.

by MOlson on Dec 3, 2006 3:11 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

that is too funny
.."instinctively drag our couch into the street and light it on fire." I get it

by bruin95 on Dec 3, 2006 3:36 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Is is just me, or did this half go by really fast?
Some birds decided to crap on my car at Tito's, so I've got to get it washed.  I'll be back.

by bruinbabe2000 on Dec 3, 2006 3:12 PM PST   0 recs

yes
I was thinking did they only play 10 minutes?  They scored only 26 in the first and we are only up by 8 right now against Riverside at home?  Something is wrong.

by bruin95 on Dec 3, 2006 3:33 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Yeah..
It seemed like the entire pavilion was hungover

by jatteratious on Dec 3, 2006 4:52 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, Including the Players
I bet its also pretty hard to get motivated against UCR.

by BruinFan101 on Dec 3, 2006 6:50 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Cowboys just went ahead
I have to do double duty today.  The only team that could drag me away from a battle for first place involving the Cowboys and Troy Aikman announcing is UCLA.

by bruinbabe2000 on Dec 3, 2006 4:01 PM PST   0 recs

Lazy stroll through UCR
hardly even worth mentioning.

It was a relatively foul free game though, that's probably why it seemed so fast to all of you.

by Tydides on Dec 3, 2006 4:23 PM PST   0 recs

Sorry the SB won HomeBruin
I was an impartial observer, but I did not really observe because I was watching my Raiders hold the Texans to -5 passing yards and STILL LOSE THE GAME!
