HIDEF SCREEN CAP SEQUENCE OF MCNEAL'S SWEET GRAB

From the Diaries. -N

It's 3rd and 4 at the UCLA 18 yard line with 1:15 left in the game. USC is down by 4 points. The drive started on the USC 29.

Booty's pass is deflected by Eric McNeal:

OH YEAH!

Bruce Davis' glove on McNeal's helmet reads "PROVE THEM WRONG" and "FOR THE FAMILY":

Bruins after the big play:

Even though it is blurry, the following frame gives you an idea of McNeal's leaping ability. Look at that elevation :) He jumped at the 22 yard line. I know this from reviewing frames from other replay angles. USC #2 is in the backfield around the 12 yard line.

GO BRUINS !

I reminded myself how loose the turf was (remember the QBs slipping quite a bit). Reviewing the McNeal catch there's quite a bit of force as he springs almost instantly towards the ball after tipping the ball from a pretty sizable height. Quite a catch indeed.

Here's some info about these screen caps. Source is over the air ATSC (HDTV) in ABC's usual 720p. Over the air is just UHF. The video bit rate is NOT compressed like you will find on high def cable or satellite. The mpeg2 and surround sound stream is written to a MythTV backend with dual ATSC tuner cards. The backend has 600 GB of disk storage and being upgraded to one terabyte. Video can be trans coded to other video formats like DVD-format mpeg2 with some degradation of the high definition. Some frames are blurry because, well, this is sports, and cameras can whip around and zoom frantically to capture those incredible moments... like this one!

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

is there a way if you can limit these images to within 500 pixels (wide) ... then we can bump them on to home page.

In any event thanks so much! Great work.

500
Nestor,
Take a look at the first frame.  Good enough?  I just resized the IMG tag to 500 x 281.  Can do the rest of them.

Incredible
I'm not a tech person, and I didn't understand all the excitement when Mr. BB's parents got a hi-def TV about two years ago.  We went to a Dodgers game a few months later, and Mr. BB's dad said, "This is almost as good as our TV."  I thought he was crazy, but that all faded when I actually watched something on their TV.

Whoever wrote "prove them wrong" on his gloves is my new best friend.

"Prove Them Wrong"
It's hard to tell, but that looks like Bruce Davis hugging McNeal in that shot.  I assume those are his gloves.

I was just about to comment on that...
... and he's got tears. What an emotional game, man I'm so glad we finally got those guys across town.

Not sure where else to put this, but...
...look at this comment by SC's O Coordinator,

Kiffin said McNeal only made the interception by failing to blitz.

"(McNeal) was supposed to come and didn't," Kiffin said." He screwed up. It was unfortunate the way it happened."

Here's the whole article...
http://www.presstelegram.com/sports/ci_4763890

So, basically Kiffin got clowned the entire game by Coach Walker, and suddenly he knows when McNeal is or isn't supposed to blitz?  Until I hear that from one of our coaches, I'm not buying it.

by Free the 16 on Dec 4, 2006 9:30 AM PST reply actions   0 recs

I love the spin.
McNeal didn't fail to blitz.  He knew what Booty was up to and blocked the pass.  McNeal didn't screw up;  Booty did.

Fucking sore losers all over USC.  They don't even have the class to man up and accept the loss.  Christ, they make me sick.

Dear Mr. Kiffin,
You might want to talk to your head coach about going for "it" on 4th down against a "soft" defense. Maybe UCLA isn't soft after all. You might also consider shaking up your pathetic game plan and look into making some adjustments as your O-line gets blown off the ball. Nice sweep on 4th down. Was that 5 or 6 Bruins tackling your RB in the backfield? I honestly don't know I lost count. Keep whiningg like the little bitch that you are and Michigan will hand you your walking papers. GOD BLESS KD and Walker!

Love,

THE ENTIRE BRUIN FAMILY!

The play..........
McNeils interception is my favorite play of the game, the blow up of that 4th down try was my second favorite play. Not sure how many Bruin defenders were there, but the running back was going nowhere.

I am not even sure the 4th down play they did make was accurate. A Bruin came out of that pile with the ball.

What a bunch of hoseheads those Coaches are.

Um, Lame Kiffin
I think maybe McNeal studied film and saw that tipped last attempt at Oregon State; maybe he just did his homework to realize JDB's tendencies?

Image server was hammered
The server hosting my images got hammered by the popularity of these photos :)

I moved some images around to other servers so they load better.

Does anyone have the entire game in a DVD type format? Love to be able to buy that

Game available
Over at BruinGold.com there is a thread where a Bob in promotions is offering to provided tapes of the game (edited w/o ads) and the radio feed, before & after the game.  Sounds too good to be true but check it out.

Wow
Thanks for the heads up! It does sound too good to be true, but after what's happened the last few days, anything is possible!

If you want to send me the video...
I can convert it to a HD Divx file and host it on Bruinville for everyone to see.

by BobTheBruin on Dec 4, 2006 3:45 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

DVD
Folks,
I spent 10 hours compiling a DVD video FILE of the greatest moments of the game. It gave me chills (the good kind) just watching it.

Good news: It is HDTV in DVD format (.mpg file).
Bad news: It is 600MB and I have no good place to host it.

Does anyone in the Bruin community have a way to host this large file?

Or do we have enough Bruin fans to get at least 5 seeders going on Bittorrent?

Or split the file into smaller pieces and spread them around somewhere?

Or other ideas?

If we can work together, everyone can enjoy this beautiful video footage.  Having the actual/live game audio is a real treat.
