Rumor (Updated): UCLA Contacted Mariucci Before Southern Cal Game
UPDATED: DG denies Wolfie's report via Dohn:
UCLA is ticked off about an entry on the Daily News blog about the school contacting Steve Mariucci prior to the Bruins win against USC. Bruins athletic director Dan Guerrero issued this statement: "I categorically deny the inaccurate report on the Daily News USC blog.'' Again I wouldn't get too caught up w/ this back and forth. As I mentioned if we blow the game against FSU, KD will be in trouble again. Still entertaining to see Dohn letting DH busting his colleague's DN blog on his own. -NKeep in mind this is coming from Southern Cal, a Southern Cal alum, who is pretty much your standard Trojan bootlicker you can find in LA's traditional media. From his blog on Daily News: UCLA Fallout
If USC defeated UCLA on Saturday, the Bruins already made contact with former San Francisco 49ers coach Steve Mariucci regarding the head-coaching position. But the 13-9 upset rendered such discussions irrelevant. It's interesting. I am weary given the source of this rumor is Scott Wolf.
However, I do believe the notion that Dorrell was going to come back no matter what happened in the Southern Cal game was just absurd and baseless without any express word of confidence from DG on Karl Dorrell.
I will go one step further and say if UCLA blows the game against Florida State, Dorrell's seat is going to get extremely warm ... again. Dorrell still needs to follow up on Saturday's magic and blow out a weak Florida State team in the Emerald Bowl.
Back to enjoying the euphoria from Saturday.
GO BRUINS.

If this did happen
At the very least, we should be more comfortable knowing that fact.

You all know what SHOULD be done.
If our goal is to really be competitive national title contenders in all sports, and this story is indeed true, then Mariucci should still be offered the head coaching job at UCLA. Keep Dewayne Walker as the defensive coordinator and let Mariucci control the offense.
We will probably get some negative press for the move and some of our own will definitely question it, but we all know we can do better than this. Do we really want to be elite in this sport or are we just happy to beat sc after seven straight losses? I know I want more. How about Dan Guerrero? Does he want more?
