RIP UA Wildcats--February 4, 2006

Memo to UA basketball community: UCLA is back and we own you.

Led by 27 points from AA, the Bruins exorcised some demons, and put what might prove to be the nail in UA's NCAA hopes with a 84-73 victory in front of a packed house at PP Saturday afternoon. The student section was on fire. (I loved the "NIT" chants with UCLA up by 10 with 01:00 to go.)

Ryan Hollins also deserves props for his performance not just today, but during the past few weeks. Ryan has provided that much needed presence in the middle. He's playing with aggression. He could be the key to a nice run in March.

DSPN recap and boxscore

Once again, the classy old man Lute Olson gives no credit where credit is due:

We played a good 25 minutes," Olson said. As soon as we learn to play 40 minutes, we're going to be pretty good.

Yeah Lute, that shitty first half had nothing to do with UCLA's aggressive D.
I guess my eyes are deceiving me, but I saw their post guy move all the way out of bounds to get Hassan," Olson said. Obviously, a moving pick. You can be half-blind and still see that.

How about a little credit to Ben Howland, the man who is quickly making UA hoops irrelevant, and not to mention UCLA's smothering defense. Every single possession is contested.

One of the things about our team through the years is we've tended to be very consistent," Olson said. "This year, it's the inconsistency that's getting us.

Lute in an epic meltdown

The changing of the guard in the PAC 10 is complete. We will own UA for the foreseeable future.

Best quick post game wrap
so far on BN. Talk about rapid fire ... you'd make Matthew Dowde proud! Anyways ... going back to this game ... how cool is this ... towards the last 20 mins of games my main stress was whether we were going to pound these low lives by more than 20 pts? If Jordan didnt get lazy those last 10-12 mins - we'd get the 20 point win. Regardless - you can see it in their faces. Its over. Done. Finished.

The only thing left - an all out online campaign to get Steve Lavin to succeed Lute in Arizona. Hey ... may be Lavo will get them to Steve-16s. That should keep those sorry Mildcats getting used to all those first round exits year after year quiet happy!

Package Deal
Lav and Dorrell straight up for Stoops.

LOL, Lavsferatu to UA. I love it.
What better place for the campaign to begin begin than here?

Yeap ...
Lates wait for the total implosion. I can already picture a nice little billboard on the Tuscon campus kicking off the campaign for Lavin to UA!

Pathetic.
Arizona has a down year with 2 first team all NBA rookies gone from last year, now you own them?

LOL!

20 years of frustration must really eat at you guys, hilarious...Arizona isn't going anywhere, especially with 4 returning starters and JMAC and Chase playing next year.

Act like you've been there before, show some class. Pathetic indeed.

Looks to me like...
the foundation at UA is starting to crumble.  Your star player has a run-in with police (yet doesn't get disciplined by the team), Rodgers gets kicked off the team, noone is playing with any heart, your coach is clearly losing his grip on his team/reality (and has zero sportsmanship to boot), your team gets swept in Oregon...

It's not looking good my friend.

Yes, we own you
You, like your bitter old coach see the writing on the wall. It's over. You can see it on Lute's face.

We have 11 banners hanging in our gym. No need to tell me we've been there.

Steve Lavin is available. Maybe Lute should bring him in and groom him as the heir apparent.

whoa...
UCLA owns UA, that makes about as much sense as UCLA winning the Pac-10 in football. Arizona has had a down year and UCLA thinks they own the Pac-10. Until Howland can prove he can put together a consistent team year in and year out, he shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Lute Olson.  And everytime you bring up the off-court problems of Arizona and their problems, you lessen the value of your win. If this is any indication...I can only imagine how much UCLA fans will blow Dorrel when he finally beats SC in football.

Joey
You wouldn't be making those comments if you knew about the context in which Howland took over this program, how far he has brought it up, and how he is setting up UCLA to dominiate recruiting wars out West. It is over. Olson knows it and he can feel it.  You can keep ridiculing all you want but we feel pretty good in our predictions that Howland is on track to build something special at UCLA.  I think in some other comment you were poo pooing our last season in which Howland won 18 games and took us back to the tourney. You wouldn't make that kind of comment if you knew about what kind of personnel Howland inherited from Lavin - a program which was coming off back to  back tournament winning humiliating 10/11 win seasons. There are reasons why we are so giddy about our basketball program and rest of the country will be finding out about us sooner or later. This year was going to be another building block year for this group of sophs. and fresmen - but the fact that we are in a position to win the Pac-10 and perhaps get a high seed out of West is nothing short of remarkable.

As far as the Dorrell comment - if he wins 9 games and beats SC next year - yes we will be more than happy to give his due and get off his case. Anyways spend more time the coaching problems of your football program - God knows you have enough to worry about on your own end.

Typical UA student
with reading comprehension problems.

As one of your fellow Wildcats was recently quoted, "the true will set you free."

We own you.

I'm not sure
but I think Joey is an SC fan.  If he is the same Joey that has been making comments on the BurntOrangeNation site...
GO BRUINS. HOOK 'EM HORNS.

Nope
I think this is Joey from Schembechler Hall - he is a good guy - he just doesn't have all the background/context re. the soap opera of UCLA basketball we were subjected to during the years before Howland took over.

Sounds like the Washington bantar heard last year
Changing of the guard, we own you...blah, blah, blah...

A good team would have blown out Arizona yesterday. Ucla is not that good, the Pac 10 is mediocre at best.

Act like you have been there before...Show some class.

uh huh
I guess UConn's not that good, they only beat Arizona by 9...

by ranelar on Feb 5, 2006 9:30 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, and I guess Michigan State...
isn't that great either, only beating Arizona by 3...

by norcalbruin95 on Feb 5, 2006 10:02 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I don't think anyone is claiming...
...that this is a great UCLA team. The excitement is about the foundation and what the future looks like.
