Reggie Really Is A Selfish Asshole
Not my headline.
It's from the guys at ProFootball.com, who continue to do yoemans work on everything Reggie Bush. I don't want to dwell on Mr. 619, but I thought this was amusing:
With apologies to everyone out there who has lined up to nuzzle the crotch of the 2005 Heisman* winner, we've decided after careful consideration that, in our opinion, Reggie Bush is a selfish asshole. And our decision in this regard was not influenced significantly by the storm of controversy regarding whether and to what extent Bush and his family got paid while Bush was still playing for USC....
No, we reached our final opinion regarding Reggie only recently, when we were reminded by a reader that the number he so desperately wants to wear at the pro level, No. 5, is already spoken for on the team that drafted him.
Quarterback Adrian McPherson, drafted by the Saints in 2005 because (as we hear it) he reminded the organization of Vince Young, currently is assigned No. 5. But there has been not a peep from the Bush camp reflecting a scintilla of respect for the fact that someone else holds the rights to the number that Reggie wants.
Hell, there's likewise been no comment from Team Bush regarding the fact that his fallback choice -- No. 25 -- is the property of Fred McCrary.
So if wearing No. 5 or (if that fails) No. 25 is such a big deal for Bush, why doesn't Bush think it might be a big deal for the guys who already wear those numbers?
Folks, whether you like or dislike Reggie Bush, his current mentality falls within the four corners of the textbook definition of selfish.
Per Webster.com, "selfish" means "seeking or concentrating on one's own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others."
Without regard for others.
So it's a no-brainer. By showing zero regard for the fact that McPherson owns No. 5 and McAfee owns No. 25, Bush is selfish.
...
And as to McPherson, we're making an open offer to negotiate on his behalf -- at no charge -- the transaction with Bush for the rights to No. 5, assuming that the NFL changes its rules regarding jersey numbering....
So how much should McPherson request for No. 5? Just enough to get Bush to accuse him of being selfish.
Indeed. Also, as I suspected, there is no cooperation forthcoming from the Bush camp in connection with the Housegate scandal- they've refused to be interviewed by Pac-10 and NCAA investigators.
Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush and his parents have declined to be interviewed by NCAA and Pac-10 officials investigating their relationship with a fledgling sports marketing agency, according to an attorney involved in the case.Big surprise there. It's too bad that a guy with such obvious physical talent has to go and reveal himself as such a prick.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of BruinsNation's (BN) editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of BN's editors.

Please...
You can do better than that. I'm sure he's not the only player of significance to want his lucky number on his jersey.
Eli Manning paid Feagles for his #10.
Burress then paid Feagles for his #17
Portis paid Ohalete 40K for his #26
So switching is not uncommon, even if Pay-offs are involved. Of course you don't mention that Bush donated 50K to a school in N.O. or that he instucted his agent not to holdout.
He's just selfish over a number. I'm surprised Menelaus your posts usually seem measured and thought out. And they are usually spot on. Not this time though. I can accept taking shots at Bush for not helping in the NCAA invesatigation, but not over a jersey number. That's just taking a shot for the sake of taking a shot. Pretty gratuitous.

Selfish Asshole
Are we supposed to slobber all over him for NOT HOLDING OUT? Gee, I'm sorry, is the millions of guaranteed dollars in base salary and signing bonuses and endorsements not enough for you? I guess I can see how that goes though, after all, your parents weren't paying rent for a while, I'm sure there's some interest involved...
By the way, he can't even donate 50K without making a big media shit about it, and then promptly sticking his foot in his mouth, extolling the virtues of staying in school as a college dropout.
This retarded SUC false sense of entitlement is beyond ridiculous, and it's apparent that you've bought into it.

And you conveniently omit the fact...
Why is Reggie so special? Take a fucking number, do your job, and collect your cash.

OK I'll bite...
I really don't follow the pros but I heard some other player, a receiver I think, wanted his number and petitioned the NFL and got his number.
I don't recall that player getting hammered here for that, maybe its because he didn't play ball at SC.
I am not one of those opportunistic fans that hammered Manning for his actions because he went to UCLA. I hammer him because of those actions he took regardless of what school he went to.
I guess I just don't live and die with the rivalry, I just want to see some good football.

Well now
But, yes, it's worth noting that Reggie is being selfish over a number. Of course, I wouldn't have repeated ProFootballTalk.com's amusing commentary had he not also been involved in some other less than honorable things, but I have no problem whatsoever with pointing out something - albiet small - that reflects on someone's character. I also thought it was funny, which makes it worth mentioning right there.
That said, though, the bottom line is that Reggie wants to bend the rules to get a number not allowed by his position, from someone else who already has it, all because he wants to capitalize on some marketing bs (and not superstition). And the donation and decision to not hold out, I'm sorry to say, appear to be also part of that marketing bs. People concerned with that stuff, and not just straping it on and giving it all on the field, frankly, don't impress me.

I'm sorry...
As with most high profile players the media DOES make a big deal out of it. The same media that will always tear a player down before building them up. The same media that hammers a player for holding out. What bush did is a great PR move. And the NFL is all about PR.
As for "Saint Bush" please explain why new season ticket holders have shot through the roof. That's with half the population of N.O. still displaced after the hurricane. Are you telling me that Saints fans are being led like sheep to the slaughter. They are consumers who now see a greater value in their product. Don't blame Bush because the Saints are going to try and ride him for all he's worth. That's the business of the NFL.
As for the 50K, again the Saints pumped that one up.
Don't get me wrong I've hammered Bush for not cooperating with the NCAA and over the last few months I've called out the SC football program for their lack of judgement so I'm not giving him a pass.
But your obvious hatred for all things SC clouds your judgement from having any rational discussion about these types of issues.
Put it another way, would you say the same things if a Bruin player was treated the same way? It's a stretch but I doubt it.

So it's the medias fault?
FYI ... when McNown was acting like a spoiled brat in Chicago, lot of us including yours truely shredded him on the UCLA online communities. We expect better from our players. He acted like a spoiled prick. He will always be one of my favorite UCLA football players (if not the favorite), but that doesn't take away from the fact that he acted like a spoiled prick when he went to Chicago. And karma caught up with him. We expected more from Cade.
Obviously you don't seem to have any standards on how famous Trojan alums should be conducting themselves after they are done with "school." Come to think of it lot of Trojan alums (not necessarily you) are still making excuses for the Juice. Shameless and morally bankrupt bunch - the USC football community.

Completely missing the point
Hatred of all things SUC? You bet, and that's something I will never apologize for. Clouding my judgement? Not hardly. Even a 5 year old would be able to distinguish between something that is yours and something that is not yours. That number belongs to someone else. But no, he's the savior, so instead of the humility that should come with being a rookie, it's "give me my damn number".
Are you seriously trying to use season ticket sales as a defense for his selfish actions? Would these people be getting any less for their money if bush did not wear his number of choice?
You talk about the media as if it's this entity that absolves bush from blame for things that he has done. Hey, if you you're in the spotlight and don't want to get roasted, don't do things that make you look bad. Don't say things that reveal that you're an arrogant asshole with a false sense of entitlement. Don't compare yourself to martyrs and other people that give their lives to God or whatever you believe in. Don't bust out the hypocrite stick, touting the grandeur of education while dropping out of college to make the big bucks.
If there was a Bruin with this much hype going around and acting like a whiny bitch like bush, you'd bet your ass I'd be upset about it, because like it or not, they are a reflection on the university, and indirectly a reflection of the students and alums. Apparently SUC alums are fine with appearing like corrupt, spoiled, punk bitches. To each his own.

We stand Shoulder to shoulder on this...
As far as being morally bankrupt, maybe they are now but they weren't in the McKay and early Robinson years.
For the record I applaud your consistancy for hammering UCLA players who get out of line. While I think it's admirable and realistic it will difficult for ANY program to have class players and a winning record. I admire your efforts to keep standards high. I have tried to do the same with SC and I will not back down at demanding those same high standards.
