FBI Investigating the Reggie Bush Affair (LA Times)
Bumped. So much for this being a stale 3 week old story. -N
Too bad for the Trojans who thought this story was going to go away. FBI is now investigating the Bush fiasco:
A federal law enforcement source said Wednesday that the inquiry was "in its infancy" and that it was "way too early to say where this [case] is headed."
The attorney for Bush's family said that he had a "lengthy" phone call with an FBI agent last week, but he would not identify who he spoke with or which FBI field office was involved.
"They're definitely investigating federal crimes, but they didn't identify which crimes or which federal statutes are involved," attorney David Cornwell said, adding that he planned to help the FBI arrange interviews with Bush and his parents, LaMar and Denise Griffin.
Jan Caldwell, an FBI spokeswoman in San Diego, said she could not comment "on a pending investigation."
Wizard also posted on this warning everyone not to buy the spin (BS?) coming out of Bush attorney's mouth: Now the Wiz is somewhat skeptical of this report, given that the person revealing the FBI's involvement is none other than David Cornwell, who happens to be the attorney representing the Bush family. You might recall that New Era founders Michael Michaels and Lloyd Lake are planning to sue Bush's family for $3.2 million, claiming the family owes them $300,000 in business-related expenses, plus punitive damages. So Cornwell's announcement that he had a "lengthy" phone call with an FBI agent last week activated the Wiz's B.S. meter. The trusty device went off a second time when Cornwell declined to identify who he spoke with or which FBI field office was involved. So let's see now the entities involved in this investigation:- the Pac-10
- the NCAA
- the FREAKING FBI

For what it's worth
No idea whether they're wrong or right, but it sounds like a decent guess to me.
