Westwood Meltdown Becoming A National Story

It was going to happen sooner or later. When there is so much finger pointing going on in that - ask him not me - kind of way, sooner or later everyone else around the country will take notice. AOL's fan house on Dorrell's circular firing squad in Westwood:

Unable to accept that Isaiah Stanback and the Washington Huskies were able to defeat them, the UCLA Bruins are opening up the circling firing squad after their 29-19 loss in Seattle.

The new culprit in Westwood for the embarrassment of losing to the Huskies? Offensive coordinator Jim Svoboda.

With a 16-14 lead and third and goal on the ten, what do the Bruins do? Run. With backup tailback Khalil Bell. Get stopped. Kick a field goal. Of course, it would take LAUSD math--not UCLA--to think that a touchdown would have helped the Bruins overcome their ultimate 10-point deficit.
It's even worse over at much respected FanBlogs, who are calling out Dorrell as Baghdad Bob.

Dorrell is fast becoming a national laughing stock. And to help him out Bruin fans themselves are stepping up to give him a little guidance as in college football for dummies.

Perhaps that's where KD should start before preparing to do a little more "growing" against Stanford.

GO BRUINS.

Good
The more this becomes a national issue, the faster DG will have to act.

God bless the internets.  And fans that demand accountability.

Times have changed ...
not the Donahue era anymore when the only avenues alums/students/fans had was the weekly LTE columns in the LAT.

Times have changed.

Yes
Isn't that the truth! How great it is.

Stanford game
So if Dorrell continues the downward progression spiral of this team and somehow finds a way to lose to Stanford this weekend...

Will DG drop the axe mid-season?

by SactoBruin on Sep 26, 2006 11:41 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

College coaches...
Don't get the axe midseason.  Maybe if they pull a Larry Eustachy or something, but it's just too hard with all the recruiting and everything.

But if Dorrell finds a way to lose to the worst team in the Pac-10, his days should be numbered.

wishful thinking
hey, we at dumpdorrell would love for KD (not UCLA) to be embarrassed by Stanford, but even we think it won't happen. Stanford is that bad. I happened to see some of the Stanford-Navy game (it was on at a sports bar that had many games on at the same time), and they looked like a high school program.

My own opinion, not of DD.com, is that KD will be here for another year, even if he loses to Stanford goes 6-6 or 5-7, and loses to Southern Cal.  I personally don't think DG has the stones to do anything.  And we know next year we will be better, so 8-4 or even 7-5 loss to Southern Cal, and another shitty bowl game, and he may keep his job for another year. It's depressing to think about.

Ummm...
So in other words...you're still hoping Ucla loses(How else would Stanford embarass Dorrell outside of hitting him in the face with a pie?). Unless you mean you're hoping for a repeat of last year where we pull off a completely improbable comeback while looking pathetic for the other 90% of the game.

Either way, I'm just going to say I humbly disagree with that line of thinking. No offense.

Amen
I concur (meaning that I likewise respectfully disagree with that line of thinking)

miscommunication
my post was in reply to the post above it ... I meant to say that expecting a Stanford loss, as the post above my post refers to, was "wishful thinking."  My post wasnt about MY wishes, it wasnt MY "wishful thinking."

Anyhow, I want KD gone, it will happen in due time. I just hope for this season, because next season anyone tailgater will do better with our team.  I dont wish for losses, and I dont wish for a season of comebacks after miserable performances.

Agreed
Sorry if I misread that. My point though, is that wishing for the team to do poorly just to get rid of Dorrell is counter-productive. If Dorrell gets fired, let it be because of the poor job he ACTUALLY does rather than wishing that he will do a poor job of coaching.

Anyhow, I'm not going to write off the season yet. After all, the expectations were 9 wins and beating SC...not 12 wins and beating SC. If we go 6-6(God forbid) or worse, then I'll be first in line with the pitchfork and burning log with the rest of you. ^_~

TJ
We are not going to write off this season yet either.

If we win 9 games and beat Southern Cal, we will give Dorrell due props. and I expect you to lead the charge feeding me crow.

And I will gladly eat it. :)

KD coaches not to lose
This is not a new story.  It's just that the poor coaching is beginning to catch up with him.  He doesn't have a seasoned senior QB and a bunch of other upperclassmen to essentially will the team to 10 victories (basically what happened last year).

I'm Mad, Not Reactionary
As painful as Saturday's loss was, I don't think you can hang Dorrell for 1 game. And I know you've got facts from previous seasons that say otherwise, but it's fucking hard to win on the road in the Pac-10. Ask Oklahoma.

If we lose to Stanford or Oregon St. that would be the time to hit the panic button. Right now I'm just kind of glancing at it in anger.

It'll pass. I'm sure a win in the big game would make me forget about this one.

What big game?
I think we can take a lot from this game given how thoroughly outcoached our team was. Washington is an awful team, and no amount of sugar coating it or blame deflection will adequately disguise the fact that all the things we were concerned about regarding our coaching staff came to light in that game. You might be satisfied to wait for a "worse" loss to come along, but I have seen enough. Losing to Stanford/Oregon St. is already way too far gone, and we could officially consider our football program "Lavinized".

uh whatever
it shouldn't be f**king hard to win on the road against the worst team from the Pac-10 from last year, which barely eeked out wins over SJSU and Fresno State.

Don't spew the excuses here.

Re: hard to win on the road in the Pac-10
Prior to Saturday, the Huskies had lost 8 consecutive home conference games. (Every home conference gane for two seasons)

Clown
KD is a complete clown, and I have seen zero growth in the program or his coaching ability since he took over.  I guess you have to give him some credit for figuring out where to stand on the sideline.  Anyone hear Craig James talk about the remainder of USC's schedule and say, "I know UCLA is nothing, but it's still a rivalry game."

Yesterday morning, Colin Cowher was saying that Notre Dame's remaining schedule, ex. SUC, is filled with nothing but creme puffs!

the dorrell death watch
The question of the moment is what is the magic number to get Coach Karl axed? Would 6 and 5 do it? How 'bout 7 and 4? Wrong! My guess is that Guerrero would refuse to admit defeat until the season went upside down at 5 and 6. Why? Because mediocrity is viewed as acceptable if spun as "building for tomorrow."

by uclagradscdad on Sep 26, 2006 9:49 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

No way the Bruins lose to Stanford
If the game is close you can put your finger on the panic button. The Arizona game will be for the season, lose that game and the Bruins probably finish 6 and 6

by cv on Sep 27, 2006 8:44 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dorrell won't get axed this year no matter what.
He's one year removed from a 10-2 season.
