Around SBN: The cost of firing vs. the cost of retaining head coaches

Another Tease [Updated]

UPDATED: Just spotted the story in NY Times on Louisville coaching search and why KD's name was in the mix:

In Louisville today, Jurich told reporters that he intended to move quickly and had a "very short list" of candidates. While Kragthorpe is the first choice, Karl Dorrell, the head coach at U.C.L.A., is another strong candidate. He, too, has strong ties to Jurich. Dorrell was the offensive coordinator and receivers (coach Ed.) at Northern Arizona from 1990 to 1991.
Again its unreal this AD would even consider given his record at UCLA. What's interesting though while these coacing rumors are swirling wrt to NFL and now another college and Dorrell he is not denying any of the rumors. He is not saying anything to assert how UCLA is his "dream job" unlike Coach Howland who always seems to go out of his way to say how much he loves UCLA. Perhaps Dorrell doesn't care much for being a UCLA HC and is just looking for a ticket way out to somewhere else?-N

A little comic relief for Monday evening. Here is ESPN on Louisville's search for a new head coach (which I am sure you know by now lost Petrino to Atlanta). Louisville is pursuing Tulsa's Steve Kragthorpe. But then there is this (from ESPN):
It's believed Louisville also had some initial interest in UCLA's Karl Dorrell, but Kragthorpe is clearly the candidate of choice.
Funny stuff.

Obviously, no need to get our hopes up. Although the ESPN report hasn't made it official yet, our friends over Card Chronicles are reporting that Kragthorpe to Louisville is pretty much a done deal.

No miracle cure yet again for the sick state of Bruin football.

GO BRUINS.

I couldn't believe it
When I read that, I was like, wow!!! Too bad they aren't serious. Also, Even if they were, why would Dorrell, be stupid enough to leave? It's not like he is going a better school.

What's best for KD
Where he needs to go is a lower level D1 school but with far less expectations of success such as a 7-5 or an occasional 8-4 year. Throw a bowl game in every 3 or 4 years and people will be happy.

It needs to be a school where every one will commiserate with him about the unrealistic expectations (see Lavin)of the UCLA fan base.

May it be East enough that the fans don't see how successful UCLA is with a proven Coach.

Does one exist, I don't know. This is just my wish for KD to leave.

I think I'll throw my hat in the ring
My head coaching record is basically the same as KD's.  I'm unimaginative.  I can't win my conference.  I have one lucky win in a big game.  I get blown out in third tier bowls.  But my number one credential -- I know every cliche that has ever been utteredand can trot them out at the drop of a hat.

Why haven't I been contacted by Louisville?

You have to hand it to KD's agent.  For him to be considered by anyone is remarkable.

Quarterbacks coach leaps Offensive Coordinator
So Kragthorpe & Dorrell were the Quarterbacks Coach & the Offensive Coordinator/Recievers Coach @ Nor. Arizona, respectively.

Wow, how did an OC let a QB coach get ahead of him for a D1 coaching job?  ESPECIALLY a coach from Tulsa!  Where in the hell is Tulsa??  Oklahoma, right?  How in the heck did he get players to go there??

Our Coach is a joke - Simple as that.

Just like in the commercial for UCLA that runs during the games, all "X amount of Califonian's own the school" . . . so we pay this guy's salary, don't we have a say in who runs the team then?

a plea
please...don't play with my fragile psyche like this.  I just can't take all of these rumors.  I cannot afford to get my hopes up that some absurd AD or GM will see fit to relieve us of the unbearable burden of "Coach" Dorrell.  As much as I would love to allow myself to believe these stories of a possible departure, I must resign myself to another year of KD driving the program into the ground in his own brutal Lavinian way.
