What Does Dorrell Have Against Osaar Rashaan?

According to the blog of L.A. Daily News beat writer Brian Dohn, the goal this week is to get redshirt walk-on QB Bethel-Thompson and true freshman scout team QB Forcier "as many reps as possible."

LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT.

(a)  Our 2 most experienced quarterbacks are injured.  So what are we doing?
We're taking a QB with 2 full years in the system and putting him BEHIND a walk-on redshirt frosh and a true frosh.

(b)  We have an O-line that has let our same Top 2 QBs get sacked AND injured the past 2 years.  So what are we doing?
We're taking our quickest QB and putting him BEHIND a walk-on redshirt frosh and a true frosh.

(c)  Our offense has worked best this year when our QB has been mobile and passing on the run or out of a rolled-out pocket.  So what are we doing?
We're taking our most mobile QB and putting him BEHIND a walk-on redshirt frosh and a true frosh.

(d)  Our nominal starting running back has turf toe, our most consistent running back has a bruised shoulder, and our remaining two running backs have seen only limited playing time.  So what are we doing?
We're taking our potentially best-running QB and putting him BEHIND a walk-on redshirt frosh and a true frosh.

(e)  Our best fullback is STILL less than 100%, leaving our pass blocking shorthanded for yet another week.  So what are we doing?
We're taking our most athletic QB and putting him BEHIND a walk-on redshirt frosh and a true frosh.

(f)  Our 3rd-most experienced QB, who would RATHER be playing QB instead of WR and only asked for the switch because of a lack of playing time, is now in a position to get more PT than he imagined at the beginning of the season.  So what EXACTLY are we doing?
We're putting him BEHIND a walk-on redshirt frosh and a true frosh.

UNBELIEVABLE.

I think this is just as bad ...
The time when Lavin (allegedly during a home game against Gonzaga) turned around to one of his assistants and asked him whether the Zags were playing man or zone. A story I have heard from multiple reliable sources over the years.

KD gives "bad" a run for its money
I'd say that Scorekeeper Dorrell NOT understanding the offense that HE designed is not a West Coast Offense is at least as bad.

I feel for Osaar...
and his family. He probably could have been a 2  year starter elsewhere (SDSU perhaps), but instead he toils on the bench. Zero playing time, even though he is admittedly one of the best pure athletes on the team. Would anyone even be slightly surprised if he transfers out of this train-wreck that is UCLA football.

I just looked at Osaar's scouting videos, and I have to say, he looks Vince-Young-esque. Sure would be nice to see him play...

I bumped the diary up because I think it needs to be read widely. I edited the title a bit making sure to include "Dorrell" and "Osaar Rasshan" so that the post shows up on all google news searches and google news alerts involving Dorrell. If you want to edit the title more, go for it, but I recommend keeping "Dorrell" and OR's name in the title.

Thanks for the bump, N.
I tried to hammer the point home a little bit more, while still keeping CTS and Rashaan in the title.  Let me know if you think it's too much.

WHY NOT US? WHY NOT NOW?

I wish the season was over
Until then the only thing I feel I have to look forward to is wearing my Dump Dorrell T-Shirt and, of course, opening of roundball.

Meriones - one question
What exactly is your point?  You can't tell me you're surprised at this.  Here in the Bizarro Universe, this is perfectly logical.

The good news, back on earth it may well hasten the demise of CTS.

Dorrell's fundamental lack
of brains is gradually becoming evident to more and more Bruin fans. The widespread outpouring of frustration, anger, disgust and despair after the ND debacle has been exhilarating. The work of BN's major posters has never seemed more likely to bear fruit. DG remains the enigmatic obstacle to progress. That is where it all stands. But, what about the QB situation? Is there a good choice there? I think B-T can do better if he is properly utilised. OR is really an unknown. In spite of his assumed potential, we know nothing for sure. Still, he has played the position, but he is probably not a WCO QB. Who is? But Dorrell has to go with OR as the 2nd option. PC mustn't come back too soon; knee injuries have to really heal. Forcier could be used and then redshirt next season, but what if the kid gets hurt? OR stands a much better chance of escaping injury and making something positive out of the inevitable broken plays. But I doubt if Dorrell will do the right thing, because he won't grasp what the right thing is. But in spite of all this, I wouldn't be surprised if we upset Cal. Well, maybe a little surprised.

so who is starting?
so does anyone know who is starting for sure?

CTS will get back to you on that
as soon as he finishes having a movement and gets a good night's sleep.

CTS is praying Cowan doesn't
tear another ligament or muscle or whatever.

The incompetence is frustrating!

Great post
Maybe some fearless member of the media will pose these questions to CTS.

Or maybe not.

Nobody is pointing out the obvious
this is all about KDs inability to EVER admit he was wrong about anything, and EVER change course.

He would rather be "right" and fail than admit a mistake, correct it, and succeed.

Its as simple as that.

"when you've seen how big the world is, how can you make due with this?"

You mean like
Mr. Beat SC.com?  He has been so frazzled since the ND debacle, that his site is still down.

How can he attack all of the "haters" if his site won't even work?  Where am I supposed to go for my cheerleader crotch-shot fix from the world's best "satirist?"  (I'll just have to go to Insomniac's Lounge which is pretty terrific in both content and photos...and he doesn't write like a petulant 3rd grader.)

by Barnes2JJ on Oct 11, 2007 4:40 AM PDT up reply actions

You need to add
"not that there's anything wrong with that" somewhere in your post.  It needs to be in there at some point.

by Fox 71 on Oct 11, 2007 11:27 AM PDT up reply actions

Do I have to be
that blatant?

I already admitted I formerly viewed Mr. Beat SC's site (when it actually was up) only for the pics and not for the 3rd-grade level writing, and that I also peruse Insomniac's Lounge for both pics and content.

I can't be the only person who enjoys looking at cheerleaders.

Conspiracy Theory #29876
Well, as usual, I have to throw something out there that's outside the box.

Perhaps the reason KD does not want to put OR in at QB is that, in his world view, he does not want to ruin the reputation of the African American QB as he has done with that of the African American head coach. Never mind that we couldn't care less about a player's or a coach's skin color, but KD views himself as such and feels like he is one of the guys holding a torch for this cause.

Sure, I'm over-analyzing the situation...but how could you not when all common sense has been thrown out the window? Also, Norvell (or KD) most likely only knows one system. He is not an Offensive Coordinator. He is a guy who knows what the plays are for a WCO. He doesn't coordinate anything, much less is able to design an offense.
