Speculation Swirling: Dorrell Has "Lost His Players"

I think this quote from Tevaga in today's Daily News is worth highlighting again:

"I thought we were going to run it there," Tevaga said. "That's the coaches' call."
Tevaga was referring to now infamous 4th and 1 that completely blew up in Dorvell's faces.

And now the premium board of Bruin Report Online is on fire w the speculation about Dorrell losing his players. Take a look at this thread (subscription req'd):

Of course I can't share with you what are in those messages, however, I believe the title of those posts give a strong hint at what is being discussed.

Suffice to say an ugly and toxic situation is rapidly developing around the UCLA football program. And it's not a healthy situation at all. Ironically one of the reasons Dan Guerrero gave the assembling media at the Morgan Center when he fired Toledo in 2002 was because he wanted a "healthy environment" around UCLA football:
"If you think about the program in the general sense and what we are trying to accomplish it is all about having the right environment," Guerrero said. "In the final analysis it was not a healthy environment."
Well it certainly hasn't worked out that way and in some way UCLA football is even more toxic than it was under Toledo. Again chances are no one is even thinking about firing Dorrell until at the end of this season.

However, if Dorrell has any shred of grace (then again no one has every really mistaken him for being graceful) and dignity (one of his selling points when he was brought into the program) left, he'd resign for the good of the program this coming week, and let everyone associated with this program move on in search for the next head coach (a search that should not consider anyone from the current staff).

GO BRUINS.

He will never resign
As that interview on black coaches in football shows, he clearly will stay on until the bitter end to "prove" to everyone that he can make it.

Great.  Thanks for the great memories, Karl.  It's been a fun ride.

forcier drop redshirt?
Forcier drop redshirt this year?  Not? the chicks dig him red shirting?  he does not have to take a hit on the football field? he goes to all the bruins post game parties?  he gets to take extra classes as bmc redshirt? and most of all hee does not have to worry about KD throwing him under the bus and forcing him to get a kaiser medical card just because the coach forgot to call for a field goal.  Why would he possibly stop redshirting at this point? Are you crazy?

What is best for the players
Interesting how KD is thinking of, well KD. What about what is best for the players? If DG gets a hint that there is an internal rebellion, or the players are lost to the coaching staff, he would have to, for the sake of the administation, do something now.

Dream on..
While we would all like to see Dorrell gone yesterday, last week, last year....there is no evidence that either the glacier moving Administration or the arrogant football coach will do anything prior to the end of the football season.  Nevertheless, the pressure should be relentless.  This blog should be committed to repeated calls for student demonstrations (as Nortre Dame students did with Whitingham), calls to the media through talk shows and blogs, and letters to the AD office...By the way, while Dorrell was sleeping well last night my 12 year old son who took a 150 mile ride yesterday to the game did not...

Tevaga
He was one of the first publically to challenge what Coletto was doing with the line last year.  I think when he speaks out, it reflects the views of many others on the team and especially other offensive linemen.

Resign?
Walk away from at least $850,000 for doing basically nothing?  I know he is dumb, but no one is THAT dumb.  You would have to drag him out of his office.

Look for him this coming week to blame injuries, bad luck, players not performing -- everything and everybody except himself.  That's the situation.  Hey, I.I.W.I.I.  (it is what it is)

A walkaway can be negotiated
It happens all the time.

DG can cut a deal where KD gets some money -- and is not FIRED officially.

If DG wants rid of him, he can find a way. In every contract there are ambiguous provisions that create a lot of discretion.

I may be hung up on this, but the Markey injection really bothers me. If the stories are true, and Markey remains hurt, there may be a provision in the contract that can be used to put heat on him to go.

If DG wants him gone, now, he's gone now.

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with this girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 flavors last night. I guess it's pretty serious.

I will believe it when its on the front page of BN.
